Vietnam’s tourism industry will get a lift this year when Australian low-cost carrier Jetstar launches its first two routes to the country.

In May 2017, Jetstar will start operating daily flights to Ho Chi Minh City – four times a week from Sydney and three per week from Melbourne. All services will be operated using Jetstar’s largest aircraft, the 335-seat Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

“Vietnam has the potential to become as popular as Bali or Thailand for Australian travellers,” said Jetstar’s group CEO, Jayne Hrdlicka. “We expect our low fares and direct flights will generate even more demand for holidays to Vietnam.

“From Ho Chi Minh City, travellers can fly to 15 other destinations within Vietnam on Jetstar Pacific, which offers the same low fares that Australians have come to expect from Jetstar.”

Australian visitor arrivals to Vietnam increased 6% in 2016, while the number of Vietnamese travellers to Australia jumped 21%. At present, Vietnam Airlines flies direct to both Sydney and Melbourne from HCMC. It will also start flying from Hanoi to Sydney on 28 March 2017.

Jetstar’s flights from Melbourne to HCMC will commence on 10 May 2017, with the Sydney services scheduled to kick off on 11 May.
