Barcelona has overtaken London as Europe’s leading Meetings and Events (M&E) destination, ending the UK capital’s three-year reign. The latest American Express Global Business Travel (Amex GBT) report highlights Barcelona’s growing appeal, supported by cultural milestones linked to the Sagrada Familia and the centenary of architect Antoni Gaudí.

Madrid, Paris and Lisbon follow Barcelona in the European rankings. Gerardo Tejado Donde, Senior Vice President of Professional Services and Meetings & Events at Amex GBT, said the findings highlight trends shaping the M&E industry through 2027.

The report ranks destinations based on accessibility, costs, safety, public investment and local attractions. Modern venues, public amenities and sustainability initiatives also influence the rankings.

The findings offer M&E professionals insights into emerging destinations and ways to improve event planning and attendee experiences.
