Beijing Art Season 2026 concludes with record engagement

Beijing Art Season 2026 wrapped up on 15 June, following a month-long celebration of art that featured exhibitions, forums, and performances across the city.

Under the theme "Art Gathers in Beijing, Harmony Embraces All," the event united hundreds of cultural institutions from over 20 countries, presenting more than 400 events and drawing 1.269 million visits to the 798 Art District alone.

The festival's integration of Beijing's primary gallery and secondary auction markets marked a significant achievement. Gallery Weekend Beijing celebrated its 10th anniversary with 61 exhibitions and over 20 public programmes, whilst the Beijing Dangdai Art Fair hosted 144 exhibitors from 22 countries and 49 cities. Four auction houses recorded nearly $68 million (RMB 500 million) in sales, reinforcing Beijing's status as a leading global art market.

International cultural exchange was a cornerstone of the Art Season, with artists and institutions from over 20 countries participating. Highlights included a children's art exhibition initiated by UNESCO and the China-Georgia Cultural Exchange Day, which celebrated cross-cultural dialogue through performances and exhibitions.

For the first time, the Art Season engaged major state-owned enterprises and public institutions, expanding art beyond museum walls into innovation parks and public spaces. Digital art installations and outdoor sculptures transformed the city, making contemporary art accessible to the public. New initiatives, such as NFC-enabled souvenir tickets, further boosted public participation and cultural consumption.

Looking ahead, the 798 Art District aims to strengthen Beijing's role as an international cultural hub by fostering connections between art, commerce, and everyday life, and creating new opportunities for cultural exchange and public engagement
