British Airways has emerged as the most expensive major airline in Europe, according to a new analysis by AirAdvisor. The report highlights that British Airways' revenue per available seat kilometre (RASK) reached 8.88 euro cents in 2025, surpassing other high-volume carriers. In contrast, easyJet, another major UK airline, recorded a RASK of 5.21 euro cents, making it the second-cheapest among the airlines studied.
The analysis, which examined 23 European carriers, found that eight out of 13 major airlines reduced their RASK in 2025. British Airways, however, increased its RASK from 8.50 to 8.88 euro cents, indicating a rise in revenue per seat kilometre. This increase places British Airways ahead of Air France and Lufthansa, which recorded RASKs of 8.50 and 8.45 euro cents, respectively.
AirAdvisor's CEO, Anton Radchenko, noted the significance of these findings for travellers. "If you're choosing between two airlines on the same route, what you pay per kilometre now depends heavily on which one you pick," he said. The report underscores the growing cost disparity between full-service carriers like British Airways and budget airlines such as Wizz Air, which had the lowest RASK at 4.33 euro cents.
The study's methodology involved analysing publicly reported financial results for fiscal year 2025. It highlights a 27.67 euro cent spread between the most and least expensive airlines, emphasising the importance of carrier choice for cost-conscious travellers
