A recent survey by cruise.co.uk, involving over 1,100 cruise passengers, has unveiled the most common misconceptions about cruising holidays. The survey identified that 27% of respondents believe the biggest myth is that cruising is 'expensive'. Other prevalent misconceptions include the belief that cruises are only for retired people (20%) and that passengers are likely to get seasick (14%).
Despite these misconceptions, 63% of respondents acknowledged that such myths still exist among the public. However, 55% noted a decline in these misconceptions compared to five years ago. Interestingly, 64% of those surveyed stated that these myths did not deter them from booking their first cruise.
Tony Andrews, managing director of cruise.co.uk, commented on the findings: "Having spoken to thousands of people about cruising over the years, I’ve lost count of the number of times someone has told me about a concern, only to come back from their first holiday at sea wondering why they hadn’t tried it sooner."
The survey also highlighted other myths, such as the belief that there's nothing to do onboard (11%) and that passengers must dress up (10%). Andrews emphasised that once people experience a cruise, they often find it vastly different from their expectations, with a wide range of ships, facilities, destinations, and prices available.
