Crystal again secured its position at the apex of luxury ocean travel, retaining the #1 ranking among midsize-ship ocean cruise lines in this year’s Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards.
Marking its second consecutive year at the top since its high-profile relaunch under the A&K Travel Group (AKTG) banner in 2023, the achievement cements a historic legacy as Crystal has dominated this category for nearly three decades since the accolades began in 1995.
As AKTG chief executive Cristina Levis put it: "To be recognised by Travel + Leisure readers as the world's best for a second consecutive year is an extraordinary honour and a testament to the passion, dedication and commitment of our exceptional crew and shoreside teams. Everything we do begins with our guests, and this award reflects the trust they place in Crystal to deliver truly unforgettable experiences."
The blueprint of a luxury renaissance
Crystal’s repeat victory highlights the success of its multi-million-pound fleet transformation as, following its acquisition by AKTG, flagship vessels Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony underwent radical refurbishments.
The company likewise modernised its footprint by introducing expanded, redesigned suites and cutting-edge wellness concepts via the Aurōra Spa.
Crucially, Crystal leveraged strategic global partnerships to elevate its onboard narrative, given how the line has the only Nobu outpost at sea, Umi Uma by Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, as well as the much-lauded Beefbar and the sophisticated Osteria d'Ovidio.
Entertainment and leisure also received an upgrade through an exclusive partnership with Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer, bringing the prestigious Casino de Monte-Carlo to international waters.
Driving value for the travel trade
For travel agents and industry stakeholders, Crystal’s continued dominance provides substantial commercial leverage. In a highly competitive luxury cruise ecosystem, consumer trust is the ultimate currency.
Crystal’s senior vice-president for hotel operations Bernie Leypold. emphasised that the brand's distinct edge lies in human capital and operational excellence.
Leypold declared: "What sets us apart is the genuine connection between our crew and our guests. Receiving this award for a second year in a row confirms that our vision is resonating with travellers around the world."
Looking ahead: Crystal Grace in 2028
The accolade arrives at a pivotal moment of scaling for the cruise line, as Crystal capitalises on the award-winning momentum, gearing up for its next phase of capacity growth with the construction of Crystal Grace.
Scheduled to debut in 2028, the vessel represents Crystal's first new-build ocean ship in more than two decades.
Designed to marry the brand’s signature intimacy with next-generation accommodation and expanded culinary spaces, Crystal Grace is poised to redefine high-end maritime hospitality.
