Dario Duque Gomez / Shutterstock.comDelta Air Lines has announced a significant expansion of its transatlantic services for 2027, introducing new nonstop routes from Boston to Reykjavík and Venice, as well as from Detroit to Athens. The Boston to Reykjavík service will commence on 12 April 2027, operating daily until 30 October, marking Delta's 14th long-haul destination from Boston during the peak summer season.
The new routes are part of Delta's strategy to bolster Boston's role as a gateway to Europe, leveraging its proximity as the closest US hub to the continent. This expansion builds on Delta's legacy in Iceland, which began in 2011 with the first US carrier nonstop flights from New York-JFK to Reykjavík.
In addition to the Iceland route, Delta will launch a four-times-weekly service from Boston to Venice starting 7 May 2027, running through 29 October.
Sharon Williams, Massport’s Executive Director of Aviation, highlighted the importance of this route, stating, “This new service provides our passengers with another opportunity to experience Italy’s incredible culture, history and tourism.”
Delta's new Detroit to Athens service will begin on 8 June 2027, operating three times weekly until 28 October.
Chad Newton, CEO of Wayne County Airport Authority, expressed enthusiasm for the new route, noting its potential to enhance tourism and cultural connections.
These new routes, alongside Delta's existing partnerships with Air France, KLM, and Virgin Atlantic, will offer customers seamless access to hundreds of European destinations. Delta is also extending its transatlantic season, with several routes starting earlier in the spring or continuing later into the autumn, providing travellers with more flexibility and options.
