Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) has completed its Southwest End-Around Taxiway ahead of schedule. The project marks the airport's third end-around taxiway and forms part of its $12 billion DFW Forward capital programme.
End-around taxiways allow arriving aircraft to move around active runways without crossing them. This reduces runway conflicts, improves aircraft movement and cuts taxi times by an average of four minutes per flight. The shorter taxi times also help airlines reduce operating costs and passenger waiting times.
The new taxiway features more than 600 LED light fixtures, 145,000 linear feet of electrical cable and nearly 97,000 square yards of concrete pavement. These upgrades support safer and more efficient airfield operations.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has provided $180 million in grants to support DFW's end-around taxiway programme. The airport completed its first end-around taxiway in 2008, followed by the Northeast End-Around Taxiway in May 2022.
DFW is the only airport in the US with end-around taxiways at both ends of a runway.
The Southwest End-Around Taxiway forms part of DFW Forward, a $12 billion investment programme to modernise airport infrastructure and improve the passenger experience. The airport expects to handle 100 million passengers annually by 2030.
The latest completion strengthens DFW's efforts to improve operational efficiency and prepare for future passenger growth.
