InterContinental Hayman Island Resort

Nestled in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef – one of the seven wonders of the natural world – InterContinental Hayman Island Resort has opened early this month. Located on a pristine 400-hectare private island in the Whitsunday Islands, the luxury resort features 166 rooms, suites and villas across three wings, and is accessible by luxury catamaran, helicopter or seaplane.

Managed by IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group), Hayman Island has undergone a USD 135 million refurbishment, ensuring the highest standards of luxury and service at one of the world’s most desirable destinations. It is the first of four InterContinental Resorts to open in 2019 and will be followed by ANA InterContinental Beppu Resort & Spa, InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort and InterContinental Phuket Resort.

“A new standard for luxury resort travel in the region”

CEO Greg Shaw, Mulpha Australia Limited, said: “Hayman Island is an iconic Australian resort destination in the heart of the world-famous Great Barrier Reef. The resort created a new benchmark for the Australian market upon opening and our investment of USD 135m to reposition and relaunch Hayman will create a new standard for luxury resort travel in the region.”

Braemar Hotels & Resorts Inc has announced the opening of The Notary Hotel in the heart of downtown Philadelphia. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the former Courtyard by Marriott Philadelphia Downtown underwent a rebranding and renovation in excess of USD 20 million to create The Notary Hotel.

“After approximately two years of design and construction on The Notary Hotel, we are delighted to finally announce its formal grand opening as a member of the Autograph Collection by Marriott,” said Richard J Stockton, Braemar’s president and chief executive officer. “As of today, the hotel is available for booking as an Autograph property on Marriott’s central reservation system and elsewhere and will be referred to as The Notary Hotel in all future public communications.”

The Kings Arms Hotel

The Kings Arms Hotel and The Six Restaurant

Bordering the maze of the Royal Hampton Court Palace, The Kings Arms Hotel and The Six Restaurant, envisioned by Michelin starred chef Mark Kempson, is set to open this August.

The Grade 2 listed hotel dating from 1709, has been brought back to life with inspiration taken directly from its surroundings. All 14 bedrooms have been renovated to create a feature expected with such a mature property. Three colour schemes were chosen, utilising the hues surrounding the property. Rich bottle greens, smokey blues and warming pinks are carried from the fabrics right through to the handmade mosaic tiles used in the rain showers and back out to the botanical-printed curtains lining the rooms views.

W Washington DC

W Washington DC

Officially unveiled on 17 July, the Beaux Arts landmark located a stone’s throw from The White House completed a USD 50 million floor-to-rooftop redesign. Led by architecture and interior design firm Studio GAIA, alongside the W brand’s design team, the remodelling of W Washington DC infuses irreverent energy and cutting-edge design into a historic hotel that has been at the epicentre of the city’s social and political scene for over 100 years.

“It’s been a decade since W Washington DC opened its doors and forever transformed the nation’s capital with a bold and dynamic energy that has been embraced by the city’s power players and visitors alike,” said Anthony Ingham, global brand leader, W Hotels. “This complete reimagining further cements the hotel as the ultimate can’t-miss destination in the heart of the city and it also marks an important and exciting milestone in our substantial renovation strategy currently underway at many of our W properties in North America.”
