Tropical coastline of Gili Air, Indonesia featuring lush trees, sandy beach and blue seaIndian travellers are increasingly venturing beyond their usual beach destinations, according to new data from digital travel platform Agoda. The data, collected from accommodation searches made between 1 May and 30 June 2026, reveals a growing interest in a variety of coastal and island locations across South and Southeast Asia, as well as Europe, for stays during July and August.
Southeast Asia remains a popular choice, with Bali and Phuket continuing to attract visitors due to their scenic beaches and vibrant local cultures. However, lesser-known spots like Lombok in Indonesia and Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam are gaining traction. Lombok is noted for its uncrowded beaches and surf culture, whilst Phu Quoc offers white-sand beaches and national parks. Thailand's Ko Tao is also drawing attention for its world-class diving opportunities.
In the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka's Trincomalee and Arugam Bay are emerging as new favourites. Trincomalee is known for its calm bays and marine life, whilst Arugam Bay is a renowned surf destination. Mediterranean destinations like Santorini and Nice are also appearing on Indian travellers' itineraries, offering a mix of cultural experiences and stunning coastal views.
Gaurav Malik, Country Director for the Indian Subcontinent and Indian Ocean Islands at Agoda, commented, "Indian travellers are increasingly broadening their horizons beyond the traditional beach favourites." Agoda's platform facilitates this exploration by providing access to over 6 million holiday properties, 130,000 flight routes, and 300,000 activities worldwide.
This trend indicates a shift in Indian travellers' preferences towards more diverse and immersive beach experiences, reflecting a broader appetite for exploration and cultural discovery
