Indian travellers seek diverse festive experiences

Indian travellers are increasingly opting for diverse experiences during the October to November festive period, according to Agoda. Searches on the digital travel platform reveal a growing interest in both international and domestic destinations, with Bangkok, Phuket, and Tokyo topping the list for international travel, whilst Goa, Puri, and Udaipur are the most popular within India.

Asia remains a focal point for Indian travellers, with Thailand, Vietnam, and Japan seeing significant increases in search interest—55%, 86%, and 125% respectively. Notably, Sri Lanka experienced a 262% surge in searches, highlighting its appeal for cultural and leisure experiences. Bangkok and Phuket recorded 65% and 51% growth, offering cultural landmarks and coastal experiences. In Vietnam, Phu Quoc saw a 124% increase, attracting visitors with its beaches and night markets, whilst Hanoi's heritage sites contributed to a 94% rise in interest. Tokyo's autumn foliage season led to a 109% growth in searches.

Domestically, Goa's searches grew by 43%, and Udaipur by 29%, reflecting their status as leisure and heritage destinations. Puri's searches soared by 318%, with Ooty and Munnar also seeing significant interest, indicating a preference for coastal and nature-focused getaways. Varanasi's 92% growth underscores the appeal of cultural and spiritual destinations.

Gaurav Malik, Agoda's Country Director for the Indian Subcontinent, noted that travellers are increasingly choosing destinations based on desired experiences rather than traditional itineraries. Agoda facilitates this by offering a wide range of stays, flights, and activities through its platform, catering to the evolving preferences of festive travellers.
