IndiGo Ventures invests ₹10 crore in Sarla Aviation

Sarla Aviation and IndiGo have announced a strategic equity investment of ₹10 crore by IndiGo Ventures in Sarla Aviation. This partnership marks a significant step towards creating India's first nationwide air taxi network, targeting the 0–300 km corridors that are crucial for daily life in India. The collaboration combines Sarla's electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) technology with IndiGo's extensive operational capabilities to address the country's middle-distance mobility challenges.

The investment was part of Sarla Aviation's recent funding round, led by Accel and Nikhil Kamath. Sarla Aviation, known for its pioneering work in urban air mobility, aims to revolutionise travel by offering faster and more efficient transportation options. Adrian Schmidt, Co-Founder and CEO of Sarla Aviation, stated, “IndiGo’s investment marks a turning point — not just for Sarla, but for the future of how India moves.”

The eVTOL industry has seen rapid advancements, with improved battery technology and hybrid-electric systems gaining reliability. Sarla Aviation, with its hybrid-electric platform, is well-positioned as India's leading eVTOL original equipment manufacturer (OEM). Meanwhile, IndiGo, India's largest airline, provides the necessary operational backbone and credibility to support this ambitious venture.

This investment not only promises to transform mobility but also aims to create thousands of high-skill aerospace jobs, develop a domestic supply chain, and enhance emergency medical transport. Potential early routes include Bengaluru Airport to Electronic City and Juhu to Pune, significantly reducing travel times. As India continues to innovate, this partnership sets the stage for a new era in air mobility
