Mas mahigpit na batas, ipatutupad sa Boracay

Sa gitna ng mga ulat ng polusyon sa dagat at pagbaha sa mga kalsada, tinitiyak ng mga awtoridad ng Pilipinas ang kanilang pagsisikap sa pagpapanumbalik at pagpapanatili ng mga likas na yaman sa sikat na Isla ng Boracay.

Ang sekretarya ng Department of Tourism (DOT) na si Wanda Tulfo-Teo, na namumuno sa isang multi-agency program na tinatawag na “Oplan Save Boracay” ay nagsiwalat na ang isang delegasyon ng mga senador ay mag-iimbestiga sa aktwal na sitwasyon sa Boracay, bilang bahagi ng Senate inquiry.

Ang mga natuklasan sa isang inspeksyon ni Teo at Kalihim ng Department of Environment and Natural Resource (DENR) na si Roy Cimatu kamakailan ay nag-udyok ng isang pagtatanong sa kalagayan ng isla. Nakatulong din ang isang direktiba mula kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte upang ipatupad ang mga nararapat na hakbang.

“Kung ipatutupad ang isang tourism heritage law, ay magiging tiyak ang pangangalaga, hindi lamang sa Isla ng Boracay at sa mga karagatan nito, kundi sa lahat ng mga natural na destinasyon ng mga turista sa bansa,” ayon kay Teo matapos ang pulong ng iba’t-ibang ahensya.

Mahigit 60 na establisemento, kabilang ang mga 5-star resort, ay iniulat na nagtatapon ng maruming tubig sa mga karagatan sa Balabag, Manoc-Manoc, at Yapac na kinabibilangan ng Isla ng Boracay, sa munisipalidad ng Malay, Aklan.

Upang agad na matugunan ang mga suliranin sa Boracay, sinabi din ng DOT head na ang isang joint order ay ginagawa sa tulong ng iba pang mga ahensya, katulad ng DENR, Department of Interior at Local Government (DILG), Department of Justice (DOJ) at Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

“Ang Boracay hanggang ngayon, ay nananatili bilang isa sa mga pinakamagagandang isla sa mundo na kinikilala sa industriya ng paglalakbay, at iyan ang dahilan kung bakit seryoso kaming nakatutok sa mga banta sa kapaligiran na maaaring makaapekto sa turismo ng bansa,” dagdag ni Teo.

Inihayag ng DOT Undersecretary na si Katherine de Castro, na isang plano sa komunikasyon ang ipatutupad upang mapanatiling alam ng mundo ang mga pagpapaunlad sa Boracay.

“Tiyak na hindi pa huli ang lahat para sa Isla ng Boracay, at utang namin sa mga bisita nito na malaman nila, na ang gobyerno ay nagsasagawa ng mga hakbang upang protektahan ang paraiso na ito,” sabi ni De Castro.
