Queenstown Airport is celebrating a landmark achievement, having recorded over one million international passenger movements in a financial year for the first time. This milestone coincides with the introduction of new direct services to Brisbane by Air New Zealand and Jetstar, enhancing connectivity across the Tasman Sea.

The airport anticipates a total of 2.8 million passenger movements in FY26, up from 2.6 million in FY25. Chief Executive Shane O’Hare highlighted the enduring popularity of Queenstown among Australian travellers, noting the strong demand for trans-Tasman flights. Jetstar's inaugural direct flight from Brisbane is scheduled for 15 June, with services operating thrice weekly until September's end. Air New Zealand will commence its route on 22 June, offering three return flights weekly until 23 October, featuring a morning departure from Queenstown.

These new routes are expected to bolster tourism, trade, and the regional economy, whilst also providing Queenstown residents with convenient access to Queensland's warmer climate during winter. O’Hare remarked, "Direct access to Brisbane makes it easier than ever for Queenstown residents to enjoy a warm Queensland getaway."
