Saka Museum at AYANA Bali has unveiled a new documentary, "Pasihan," offering an in-depth look at the Subak system, a traditional Balinese water management network. The 13-minute film, developed with Niskala Studio, traces the journey of water from Pura Ulun Danu Batur to Subak Pulagan's rice terraces, revealing the sacred traditions and communities that sustain Bali's agricultural landscapes.

The documentary complements the museum's exhibition, "Subak: The Ancient Order of Bali," by focusing on the spiritual and social aspects of the Subak system, recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage cultural landscape. "Pasihan," derived from the Balinese word for love and dedication, highlights the interconnectedness of Subak communities blessed by Dewi Danu, the Goddess of the Lake.

Through the lives of temple secretary I Ketut Eriadi Ariana and Subak Pulagan leader Sang Nyoman Astika, the film captures the preparations for the Ngusaba Kadasa harvest ceremony and the Pepada Agung procession. It also addresses challenges such as the conversion of rice fields, which threaten the Subak's foundational rituals and responsibilities.

"Pasihan" is part of Saka Museum's commitment to preserving Bali's cultural heritage by showcasing the knowledge and traditions that shape the island. The film screens daily in the museum's 50-seat auditorium, enriching the visitor experience alongside the existing exhibition and introductory film on the Balinese Hindu Saka calendar. Through this initiative, Saka Museum aims to deepen understanding and appreciation of Bali's cultural achievements
