Saka Museum at AYANA Bali has launched its first temporary exhibition, "Kamasan: The Noble Tradition of Balinese Painting," which began on 28 August 2026. This exhibition, running until 30 May 2027, highlights the development of the Kamasan painting style, a significant Balinese tradition, from its origins in the 16th-century royal courts to its contemporary interpretations by modern artists.

The Kamasan style, named after a village in Bali's Klungkung Regency, is deeply rooted in Balinese-Hindu religion and draws inspiration from epic tales such as the Ramayana and Mahabharata. The exhibition, curated by Farah Wardani and Made Chandra, features over 30 artworks, including classical ritual cloths and contemporary pieces by artists like Eka Sutha and Eka Mardys, who reinterpret traditional motifs in modern contexts.

A notable section of the exhibition is dedicated to Mangku Muriati, a pioneering female artist and temple priest, whose works have been internationally recognised. The exhibition aims to present both classical and contemporary Kamasan works on equal footing, illustrating the tradition's evolution and relevance today.

Throughout the exhibition, Saka Museum will host various public programmes, including artist talks and workshops, to engage visitors with the rich cultural heritage of Kamasan painting. The museum, located in Jimbaran, Bali, is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00.
