Sanya strengthens tourism ties with Malaysia

Sanya, China, has taken a significant step in enhancing its tourism relationship with Malaysia by signing a strategic cooperation agreement with Tourism Malaysia. This partnership, announced on 2 April, aims to boost tourism collaboration during Visit Malaysia Year 2026, with Tourism Malaysia now a Strategic Tourism Promotion Partner of Sanya.

The Sanya Tourism Development Bureau has also partnered with the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents and the Malaysian Budget Hotel Association to improve tourism management and visitor exchange. A newly established Sanya Tourism Overseas Promotion Malaysia Liaison Office will serve as a comprehensive information and booking platform for Malaysian travellers.

Malaysian citizens can now enjoy visa-free access to Hainan, allowing stays of up to 15 days without prior visa requirements. Direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Sanya take approximately three hours, with plans underway to introduce flights from Penang and Kota Kinabalu, enhancing accessibility.

Sanya offers a range of exclusive promotions for Malaysian visitors, including discounts on hotels, attractions, and holiday packages. The upcoming 2026 Asian Beach Games will feature special offers, with attractions like Wuzhizhou Island and Atlantis Sanya providing significant ticket discounts.

Sanya's diverse offerings cater to all types of travellers, from families enjoying Atlantis Sanya Water Park to adventure seekers exploring Wuzhizhou Island's diving opportunities. Cultural and wellness experiences, alongside luxury shopping at Sanya's duty-free complex, further enhance its appeal.

With a 204% increase in Malaysian tourist arrivals this year, Sanya is positioning itself as a premier gateway for Malaysian tourists to China, offering a blend of natural beauty, modern amenities, and warm hospitality
