Thailand brings “Ignite Thailand’s Tourism” vision to ITB Asia 2024

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) brought its home country’s sustainable and responsible tourism initiatives to the forefront at ITB Asia 2024 in Singapore. Thai minister of tourism and sports Sorawong Thienthong, together with Thai ambassador to Singapore Ureerat Chareontoh and TAT governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool, presided over the opening ceremony of the Thailand Pavilion where TAT presented the country’s tourism initiatives which are aligned with the government’s Ignite Thailand’s Tourism vision.  The Thailand Pavilion featured the Kingdom’s distinctive attractions, including the “Five Must-Do” experiences, which spotlighted Thailand’s unique charms in both renowned and lesser-known destinations.  Visitors were invited to participate in hands-on DIY activities, crafting souvenirs from upcycled materials sourced from marine debris, reinforcing Thailand’s commitment to environmental guardianship. During the event, Thailand also received the 2024 Global Partner Award for Most Popular Destination” from Trip.com, reflecting the nation’s enduring appeal among international travellers and the strength of the partnership between TAT and Trip.com in promoting Thailand as a premier travel destination. A diverse delegation In collaboration with the Phuket Tourism Association, TAT brought together 32 Thai tourism operators, including hotels, resorts, tour services, water parks, and golf clubs, alongside strategic partners TAGTHAI and Thailand Privilege Card.  Over 800 business-to-business meetings were conducted, creating valuable new opportunities for Thai tourism enterprises. Last year, over one million Singaporean travellers visited Thailand, and this year, between January and 21 October, 747,994 Singaporeans had already arrived, with Bangkok, Songkhla, Phuket, Krabi, and Pattaya among the most popular destinations. For 2024, TAT aims to attract over one million Singaporean visitors, generating a projected tourism revenue exceeding 48 billion Baht. Key target segments include cross-border and Fly & Drive travellers, Health & Wellness, sports tourists (especially those interested in golf, cycling, marathons, and Muay Thai), youth, and cruise passengers.

Goa Tourism successful with stint at ITB Asia 2024

Goa Tourism's participation at ITB Asia 2024 in Singapore was a successful endeavour, marked by strategic dialogues, high-profile visits, and extensive global networking.  The delegation, led by IAS director of tourism Suneel Anchipaka along with GTDC general manager for marketing Gavin Dias and deputy director of tourism Dhiraj Wagle represented Goa at the prestigious travel trade event, reinforcing the state's commitment to expanding its tourism footprint. Reflecting on the occasion, Anchipaka remarked: "Our participation at ITB Asia 2024 has been immensely productive, allowing us to present Goa's unique tourism experiences and forge meaningful connections on a global scale. We are committed to advancing Goa's tourism by focusing on innovative approaches like regenerative tourism that prioritise sustainable growth and the preservation of our cultural and natural assets. The visit of esteemed dignitaries from the High Commission of India reaffirms the importance of promoting Goa as a premier global destination and further solidifies our efforts to engage with international stakeholders." Key discussions As part of its initiatives to boost Goa's tourism, the delegation held a significant meeting with GB Srithar, head of tourism services at VFS Global.  This strategic discussion centred on enhancing connectivity and paving the way for growth opportunities in Goa's tourism sector.  The meeting explored avenues to strengthen Goa's international reach, enhance ease of travel for international tourists, and position the state as a key destination in the Asian tourism market. Goa Tourism also had G2G meetings with representatives from the Kyrgyz Republic. During these discussions, delegation leaders were joined by Concorde Exotic Voyages senior vice-president as they explored potential collaborations to boost inbound tourism between Goa and the Kyrgyz Republic.  The meetings concluded on an optimistic note, with promising prospects for bilateral tourism initiatives.  Additionally, meetings were conducted with senior officials from IRCTC and Goa Tourism's delegation partners, including Speedbird, One Calangute, and Concorde Exotic Voyages.

Taiwan showcases indigenous heritage and exclusive promotions at ITB Asia 2024

Taiwan’s diverse landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and vibrant traditions took centre stage at ITB Asia 2024, currently ongoing in Singapore.  This year, three Taiwanese exhibitors, including the Taiwan Tourism Administration (B05), MICE One-stop Service, Taipei City Government (B05), and the Council of Indigenous Peoples (D35), teamed up to promote Taiwan's unique tourism resources to travel industry professionals from the Asia-Pacific region.  They showcased travel packages aimed at attracting international travellers to explore Taiwan's stunning natural landscapes, indigenous cultures, and vibrant urban attractions. The Taiwan exhibitors at ITB Asia 2024 also highlighted two attractive offers to enhance the travel experience for international visitors.  Through the Accelerated Plan to Attract International Tourists, foreign travellers can take advantage of exclusive promotions, such as the "Take THSR with 2 for 1 One-way Ticket for Non-Taiwanese Passport Holders" promotion, making it easier to explore Taiwan’s stunning landscapes via high-speed rail.  Additionally, Taiwan provides generous subsidies for corporate incentive travel, offering financial support for groups of 500+ staying 3 days/2 nights or 300+ staying 4 days/3 nights, with extra per-person subsidies available for longer stays, encouraging participation in cultural activities and local experiences. An island-wide adventure Taiwan offers international travellers an abundance of experiences, from modern urban attractions to deep cultural roots and breathtaking natural beauty.  Under the theme "Mountains, Waters, and Island Fun," the Taiwan Tourism Administration highlighted the island's diverse landscapes, which range from majestic mountains to serene coastal areas.  These features provide ample opportunities for eco-tourism, outdoor adventures, and immersive cultural experiences. Getting into indigenous culture A special focus was placed on Taiwan’s indigenous tribes and their sustainable tourism practices, offering visitors a deep dive into the island's rich heritage and traditions.  Taiwan is home to 16 indigenous tribes, each with its own unique culture, language, and customs.  Travellers can embark on tribal tours, participate in traditional dances, taste local cuisine, and explore scenic landscapes, all while supporting sustainable tourism and local communities. At ITB Asia’s main stage, the Council of Indigenous Peoples introduced Taiwan's Truku Tribe, showcasing traditional attire, inviting the audience to join Taroko dance steps, and offering interactive experiences with the Truku xylophone, with participants receiving local handmade crafts as gifts.

17th ITB Asia 2024 opens with 85+ tourism organisations and convention bureaus in Singapore

ITB Asia 2024 begins in Singapore, alongside MICE Show Asia and Travel Tech Asia bringing together travel trade for business, networking and conferences from 23 -25 October 2024. Addressing the attendees at the opening of the ITB Asia 2024, Dr. Mario Tobias, CEO, Messe Berlin stated: “A very warm welcome to our 17th edition of ITB Asia, where, here in Singapore in Marina Bay Sands alongside MICE Show Asia and Travel Tech Asia. Thank you all for joining us for powerful meetings of good discussions. ITB Asia 2024 is a key platform that brings together thought leaders from different areas to discuss travel and tourism, opportunities for proliferation and industry growth.” Dr. Mario Tobias   “This years’ show promises to be the biggest and most diverse till now. The show is spread across 17,000 square metres filled with exhibitors from all over the world and guests,  showcasing everything from destinations, airlines, hotels to cruises and MICE. Cutting edge and groundbreaking technologies for the years to come would be showcased there. Over 85 Tourism organisations and convention bureaus have joined us. There is an increase of more than 75 per cent from exhibitors joining from the African region compared to the last year’s show. The European region also has an increase of over 25 per cent. We see new participants from the Asian countries, America and from ME. Among the exhibitors we have the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism from the Sultanate of Oman, Visit Norway, Tourism Armenia, Visit Jordon, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and many more.” He concluded: “ITB Asia 2024 is all about innovating for tomorrow, strengthening future resilience in travel and tourism, we will be diving into critical discussions  and into leisure and corporate travel, MICE and rapidly evolving technologies. There remains a wealth of information to be imbibed.” Alvin Tan   The Guest of Honour at ITB Asia 2024, Alvin Tan, Minister of State for the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, and the Ministry of Trade & Industry, Government of Singapore, he thanked all for coming and stated that the city is open for many events. He said: “Singapore is a place to experiment. If you have new ideas, you have new suggestions and you need to try them out, then Singapore is the destination. We recently held the Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix 2024 night race, that is extremely popular. We also we were also asked to hold the first international Olympic E ports week in Singapore. If you have a good novel idea, and you want to execute in Singapore, we are open for business. ITB Asia slated to discuss innovation for tourism resilience

ITB Asia returns from 23rd to 25th October this year at Singapore’s Sands Expo & Convention Centre. Revolving around the theme Innovating for Tomorrow: Strengthening Future Resilience in Travel and Tourism, this year’s conference casts the spotlight on ground-breaking knowledge and insights across three focused tracks on how to adapt to changing consumer expectations, improve operational efficiency and create more sustainable and immersive experiences.
