Turkish Airlines Announces First Use of SAAFI for New Aircraft Deliveries
Turkish Airlines has mandated the first financing structure to use the Sompo AXIS Aviation Finance Insurance (SAAFI), Aviation Non-Payment Insurance (ANPI) product. This transaction, sealed at a signing ceremony in Tokyo, Japan, marks a significant milestone in aviation financing insurance as it is the first time SAAFI has been mandated following its launch earlier this year. Under the terms of the mandate, JP Lease will arrange equity and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) will provide the debt to Turkish Airlines for the delivery of one A350-900 and one A321-271NX aircraft (both expected in 2026). SMBC’s loan is supported 100% with an ANPI policy provided by the SAAFI insurers, Sompo and AXIS. This use of the SAAFI ANPI product in connection with a Japanese Operating Lease with Call Option (JOLCO) structure has allowed Turkish Airlines to significantly lower its all-in cost of financing. The policy was brokered by Willis, a WTW business (NASDAQ: WTW). "We are pleased to be the launching customer of “SAAFI” with the support of our valued insurers Sompo and AXIS, Insurance broker Willis, our long-term business partners SMBC and JP Lease. At Turkish Airlines, we are committed to participating in the development of innovative solutions that support our growth and fleet renewal strategies. With financing models like SAAFI, we not only enhance our financial flexibility and resilience but also reinforce our leadership in the industry,” said Assoc. Prof. Murat Şeker, Turkish Airlines Chief Financial Officer and Member of the Board and the Executive Committee. Tim Gaul, Financial and Political Risks Underwriter at Sompo said: “Sompo is honoured to have been mandated by our long-term partner Turkish Airlines to launch the SAAFI product on its inaugural financing of two Airbus aircraft. Sompo has extensive experience in the Aviation Non-Payment Insurance market having been involved in the financing of more than 120 aircraft globally over the past eight years. We believe our partnership with AXIS through SAAFI will be a welcome addition to our current suite of aviation financing products available to our customers, with Turkish Airlines the first of many who will benefit from our additional capacity.” Richard Jelf, Senior Underwriter at AXIS said: “AXIS is proud to be bringing the SAAFI product to the aircraft finance market alongside Sompo and thrilled to have Turkish Airlines as our first customer. Building on our extensive experience in the aviation sector, SAAFI is an important addition to our product offerings in the Aircraft Non-Payment Insurance space. Through this initiative, AXIS can partner with new and existing customers, playing an important role in both their growth as well as that of the airline industry.” Stuart Ashworth, Managing Director of Financial Solutions, Willis, a WTW business, added: "We are delighted to be able to assist Turkish Airlines and SMBC with this financing. This is also our first SAAFI mandate from Turkish Airlines; an innovative financing solution supporting an innovative, dynamic and forward-thinking airline."

Saadiyat Island Abu Dhabi transforms into a masterpiece of artistry
Saadiyat Island Abu Dhabi undergoes a stunning transformation, turning Saadiyat Rotana Resort & Villas beach into a mesmerizing masterpiece of artistry that captivates the senses of the destination while elevating the coastal experience. Saadiyat Island collaborated with Nathaniel Alpide a visionary sand artist, who discovered his profound passion for sand art pieces in 2014. Over the years, Nathaniel has elevated his unique talent leaving his mark on the shores and deserts of the United Arab Emirates. Meticulously crafted sand grains come together to paint a vivid portrait of Saadiyat Island's pristine beaches and azure waters, embodying the epitome of relaxation and tranquility. The art seamlessly extends this narrative to the shores of Saadiyat Rotana Resort & Villas beach, capturing not only its natural beauty but also mirroring the creative showcase beneath the iconic dome of the Louvre Abu Dhabi. Venturing deeper into the artistic creation, the piece mirrors Saadiyat Island's steadfast dedication to wildlife conservation. Illustrations of sea turtles and dolphins come to life, their graceful movements seamlessly etched into the artwork. The inclusion of gazelles adds another layer to the artwork; their elegant presence harmonizing with the natural landscape of the destination. Nathaniel captures the essence of the island's coastal beauty, using gentle strokes to convey the rhythmic movements of the waves along the shoreline. In its final strokes, the art piece effortlessly weaves in Saadiyat's world-class golf courses, serving as a symbolic representation of the seamless coexistence between leisure and nature. Beyond celebrating the individuality of each landmark, the masterpiece skillfully unites them into a cohesive visual narrative. The Middle East’s Leading Beach Destination, Saadiyat Island invites guests to immerse themselves in a variety of natural landscapes, pristine sandy beaches, luxurious resorts, vibrant wildlife and marine encounters and a dynamic culture district.
Saadiyat Island Abu Dhabi breaks the Guinness World Records title for largest display of messages in bottles
Saadiyat Island Abu Dhabi was recently awarded a Guinness World Records™ title for the largest display of messages in bottles in a unique and memorable stunt at the award-winning destination. The destination collected 1,100 bottles with unique messages in a large installation at Saadiyat Beach Club. Inspired by the infamous Pont des Arts bridge in Paris, wherein passersby attach locks with their names written or engraved on them to the railing or grate on the side of the bridge, Saadiyat Island invited guests to participate in the stunt by penning a short note detailing what they love most about Saadiyat Island, or what love means to them. The notes were then placed in each glass bottle and transported to Saadiyat Beach Club a week later. Accepting the award on behalf of Miral, Taghrid AlSaeed, Executive Director of Group Communications and Destination Marketing at Miral said, “We are driven by a passion to bring people together, build a sense of community, and create heartfelt connections. We are thrilled to receive this recognition by Guinness World Records™, reflecting our commitment to deliver unforgettable memories and sparking moments of joy for all our guests, while achieving our vision for Saadiyat Island and contributing to Abu Dhabi’s growth. Thank you to everyone who joined us in making this milestone possible.” Liam Findlay, CEO of Miral Destinations commented, "We are thrilled to have achieved a Guinness World Record™ title for Saadiyat Island Abu Dhabi, renowned as the Middle East leading beach destination. We are delighted to see guests and families so engaged with us during this attempt and extend our sincere appreciation to all our guests who contributed to this achievement. Participating destinations at Saadiyat Island include Saadiyat Rotana Resort & Villas, Jumeirah at Saadiyat Island Resort, Nurai Resort, Soul Beach, Saadiyat Beach Club, Rixos Premium Saadiyat Island, and Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi Hotel and Villas. The activity was open to guests of all ages, including guests at the destination and aimed to showcase how ‘love is a journey’ for all. At Saadiyat Beach Club, a local sand artist creatively placed the bottles into a large installation in the shape of ‘I Saadiyat Island,’ a design that resonated with the destination and inspired by similar installations across the world. In line with the destination’s ethos on sustainability, and aligning with the Year of Sustainability, all items required to make this attempt a success were crafted out of sustainable materials, including glass, recyclable paper, and jute thread to secure the notes before placing in the glass. Saadiyat Island is dedicated to both preserving its natural environment and safeguarding its indigenous wildlife fostering a harmonious and sustainable destination.
