John Dory Seafood Market brings a head-to-tail seafood ecosystem to Dubai

John Dory Seafood Market opened its doors at The Market Island in Dubai Festival City Mall on Tuesday, 15th July, ahead of its grand opening on the 25th of this month. The new establishment introduced diners to the region’s first sustainable head-to-tail seafood ecosystem.  This concept encompasses every stage of the seafood journey, from direct sourcing and import to in-house processing, open-fire cooking, and retail, providing diners with an unmatched experience in freshness, quality, and value.  According to John Dory co-founder and CEO Arseni Tsiusiunnik: “We’re not just launching a restaurant: we’re building a seafood ecosystem. We believe the true taste of seafood begins at the source with the origin of the fish and every step that follows. For instance, we carefully selected a tuna supplier from the Seychelles, known for pristine waters and premium tuna exported to Europe and Japan. Our sea bass and sea bream come exclusively from Greece, and our oyster bar features French oysters chosen through blind tastings.” Three concepts in a single venue John Dory brings together three distinct yet interconnected experiences, all guided by the synergy of fishmonger and chef, united by a single focus on fish: John Dory Seafood Bar: A casual dining seafood restaurant with around 80 seats, centred around open-fire grilling “à la parrilla”. The kitchen’s signature lies in bold, honest flavours, with fish and seafood cooked over flame to bring out their natural richness (starting from AED 50). The menu moves from dishes like king crab croquettes (AED 100) and baked oysters (AED 50) to Galician-style octopus (AED 95) and dry-aged tuna steaks (from AED 140). Fresh oysters start at just AED 10, paired with a curated selection of non-alcoholic, kombucha-based drinks. John Dory Seafood Store: A retail market offering the freshest global catch alongside artisanal products, including smoked fish (from 30 AED), seafood pâtés, salads, canned specialities, and ready-to-cook meals (fish lasagna, salmon wellington, shepherd's fish pie) for home enjoyment.  John Dory Street Food: A concise menu of globally inspired dishes, including tuna dry-aged cheeseburger (AED 70), bouillabaisse (AED 60), fish & chips (75 AED) and octopus hot dog (AED 75), for a quick, flavorful bite within the food hall or on the outdoor terrace. Head-to-tail gastronomy at its best John Dory’s head-to-tail philosophy ensures that every part of the fish is utilised with care.  Thanks to a custom-built smoker, dry-ageing technology, and complete supply chain control, fishmongers and chefs collaborate closely to maximise flavour and minimise waste.  From belly cuts and tail sections to bones and heads, every element is transformed into dishes like ossobuco, seafood lasagna, and rich broths. As head chef Maxim Gurin puts it: “Everything we serve is crafted in-house, from fresh fillets to dry-aged cuts and smoked pâtés. Our dedicated craft zone allows us full control over flavour and quality.” It should be noted that fish is personally selected from trusted fisheries and farms, and imported directly without the use of intermediaries.  John Dory actively imports seafood into Dubai, maintaining contracts with suppliers from the Netherlands, France, the Seychelles, and more.  From Norwegian salmon to Seychellois tuna, the brand is committed to shaking up the market with both quality and fair pricing.

flydubai’s Ghaith Al Ghaith honoured at 2025 Airline Strategy Awards

flydubai’s chief executive officer Ghaith Al Ghaith received the Executive Leadership for the Middle East & Africa award at the 2025 Airline Strategy Awards held in London on Tuesday, 15th July. This year’s award recognises Al Ghaith’s strategic leadership and longstanding contribution to the aviation industry in the Middle East and Africa.  Al Ghaith said of the award conferred upon him: “It is an honour to receive this award on behalf of the entire flydubai team, whose hard work and dedication have made this achievement possible. This recognition reflects not only our collective efforts but also the visionary leadership and world-class infrastructure of Dubai and the UAE, which have laid the foundation for innovation, growth and long-term success.” Flydubai Boeing 737 MAX 8 photographed on July 26, 2017 from Wolfe Air Aviation’s Learjet 25B. A transformative presence Since flydubai’s inception in 2008, Al Ghaith has been a driving presence that has enabled it to grow into one of the region’s most dynamic carriers. Under Al Ghaith’s leadership, the airline has emerged as a key contributor to the aviation sector, playing a strategic role in supporting Dubai’s ambitious economic vision and its position as a global aviation hub. Today, flydubai boasts of a network of more than 135 destinations across 58 countries, more than 100 of which were underserved markets that previously did not have direct air links to Dubai or were not served by a UAE carrier. According to Al Ghaith: “Since our launch, our mission has been to enable free flows of trade and tourism and to open up underserved markets. Today, we continue to reach new heights across our fleet, network, workforce and performance. I’m proud of how far we’ve come and look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead as we continue to grow and evolve, contributing to Dubai’s aviation hub along the way. It has been an exceptional journey and I look forward to the next chapter in our success story.” Last year, flydubai achieved its strongest-ever financial performance, reporting a profit of AED 2.5 billion on revenues of AED 12.8 billion, carrying 15.4 million passengers, an 11 percent increase from 2023.  These results reflect Al Ghaith’s ability to steer the airline to new heights, navigating challenges such as supply chain disruptions and broader geopolitical tensions, all while maintaining agility, its commitment to operational efficiency and challenging conventions. He has also led a growing workforce representing more than 140 nationalities, while further investing in the airline’s training programmes and inhouse capabilities.  These include the opening of the airline’s new Flight Training centre, the launch of the Ab Initio Pilot Training programme, and the groundbreaking of the Aircraft Maintenance Centre.

Dubai’s Tourism Soars as Visitor Numbers Outpace Residents, Surpassing Paris and London

Dubai is redefining what it means to be a global tourism powerhouse, with new figures revealing a sharp rise in its tourist-to-resident ratio—now surpassing cities like Paris and London. As of mid-2025, Dubai welcomed 7.15 million international visitors in just the first four months of the year, setting the pace for another record-breaking year after attracting 18.72 million in 2024. Unlike many major cities struggling with overtourism, Dubai's growth is intentional, strategic, and infrastructurally prepared. Backed by world-class planning, robust investment in tourism infrastructure, and a multicultural population of over 85% expatriates, the city has avoided the friction seen in other travel hotspots while accelerating toward its goal of becoming one of the world’s most visited and livable destinations. While cities such as Amsterdam, Bali, and Athens wrestle with the downsides of tourist saturation, Dubai presents a contrasting model—welcoming growth while avoiding crowd-related collapse. With its well-executed urban development strategy and plans to nearly double its population to 7.8 million by 2040, the city aims to support both residents and visitors without compromising quality of life. Dubai's inclusivity and openness are also major assets. The coexistence of over 200 nationalities has created a global cultural hub that appeals equally to leisure travelers, entrepreneurs, and long-term residents. According to World Economic Forum projections, Dubai’s tourist-to-resident ratio could rise from 5.5 visitors per resident to 6.9 by 2034—eclipsing Paris (1.8) and London (2.6). The numbers not only showcase Dubai’s draw but reflect its infrastructure’s ability to absorb and sustain high tourism volumes. Tourism already accounts for 11.7% of the UAE’s GDP, contributing Dh220 billion in 2023. That figure is expected to rise to Dh236 billion in 2024 and Dh275 billion by 2034. The sector supports tens of thousands of jobs and is critical to the country’s long-term vision of economic diversification beyond oil. With globally connected airports, a vast hotel portfolio, and experiences that range from heritage to hypermodern, Dubai is proving that high-volume tourism can be both profitable and sustainable—if the groundwork is right.

Dubai Airport crowned world’s No.1 for food & retail in 2025 AirHelp Score

Dual horizontal escalators smoothly guide travelers to the departure gate in the airport. The UAE is flying high, with both Dubai and Abu Dhabi International Airports securing spots in the world’s top 20 airports, according to a newly released global ranking by AirHelp, the travel tech company supporting passengers with flight disruptions.  Dubai International Airport has been ranked the world’s number one airport for food & shops, scoring 9.1 out of 10, while securing 18th place worldwide with a notable 8.14 points overall. Abu Dhabi Airport follows closely behind, securing 19th place globally and scoring 8.11 points. Tomasz Pawliszyn, CEO of AirHelp commented: "At AirHelp, we believe passengers should be able to make decisions about air travel based on more than just the price of a flight. Our goal is to equip them with an insight into flight performance using other factors that matter. Through the AirHelp Score, we can help passengers better predict what their experience will look like at different airports and what they can do if their flight gets delayed, cancelled or overbooked.” The 2025 AirHelp Score ranks 250 airports across 68 countries. The data highlights a strong surge from the Middle East, with eight airports breaking into the global top 20 - a significant jump from just two in 2024 which reflects the region’s growing excellence in aviation. Airports were assessed in three key categories of Punctuality, Customer Opinions, and Food & Shops. Cape Town International Airport in South Africa ranked the world’s top-performing airport, achieving an impressive 8.57 points overall. Middle East on the rise Leading the Middle East is Doha Hamad International Airport in Qatar, which earned an impressive 8.52 points, securing second place globally and the title of the region’s top-performing airport. The airport also came out on top when evaluating the largest airports, handling over 250,000 flights each year. Close behind is Riyadh King Khaled International Airport in Saudi Arabia, which made a remarkable leap from 33rd to 3rd place worldwide, with a score of 8.47, making it the second-highest ranked in the Middle East and across the largest global airports. Muscat International Airport in Oman follows closely with the same score, placing it third in the Middle East and fifth overall. Since 2015, the AirHelp Score has helped passengers make more informed decisions by ranking the performance of airlines and airports worldwide. Similarly to last year, and to better serve passengers ahead of the busy summer months, airport and airline rankings will be published separately, ensuring passengers have timely access to the latest airport performance data.

Dubai Airports hosts guided travel simulation experience for children with autism

Dubai Airports organized a guided travel simulation experience at Dubai International Airport (DXB) for a group of children with autism spectrum disorder enrolled in the Ta'alouf Programme. The programme is run by Al Jalila Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Dubai Health. The experience aimed to boost the children's self-confidence and prepare them and their families to travel with ease and peace of mind. The Ta'alouf Programme, which Al Jalila Foundation launched 13 years ago, serves as a vital pillar in empowering families of people of determination and educators. It equips them with the knowledge and skills needed to understand children's behavioural, psychological and educational needs. The programme supports the integration of people of determination into society, particularly for those facing challenges such as autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome, mental delays and others. It focuses on unlocking their potential and turning challenges into opportunities for skill building. The initiative was carried out in collaboration with teams from the oneDXB community, (a network of stakeholders involved in the operations and passenger experience at Dubai International Airport), caregivers, volunteers and airport front-line staff. It aligns with the goals of the UAE Year of the Community and reflects a shared belief in the importance of collective action to create a more inclusive and supportive travel experience for families of people of determination. Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer of Dubai Airports, said: "This initiative shows the real impact we can make when we work together. Accessibility is not only about physical infrastructure, but also about how we respond to individual needs with empathy and care. A supportive airport environment can make all the difference for a child of determination and their caregivers." Dr. Amer Al Zarooni, CEO of Al Jalila Foundation, expressed his gratitude to Dubai Airports for partnering on this initiative, which supports people of determination, and their families prepare for airport travel with confidence and ease. He said this step aligns with the UAE's national policy to empower people of determination and integrate them into society and public life, while also reflecting DXB’s efforts to enhance accessibility and ease travel experiences for all. The travel simulation experience is one of several initiatives implemented by Dubai Airports to enhance the travel journey for people of determination and their caregivers. It is part of the airport's commitment to providing a more inclusive and accessible travel environment. The experience was conducted with the support of trained Guest Experience Ambassadors in a calm and organized setting. This helped participants from Al Jalila Foundation feel more at ease while navigating the airport and preparing for future travel. During the simulation, families had the opportunity to explore different areas of the airport and ask questions. This helped them build a sense of familiarity and confidence, making future travel experiences less stressful and more positive. Many people of determination, especially those with autism spectrum disorder, face unique challenges when traveling through airports. These include unfamiliar procedures, sensory stimuli and crowded environments. The simulation experience helps children, and their families become familiar with each stage of the travel journey, from arriving at the airport and completing check-in, passport control and security screening, to reaching the boarding gates and arrival halls. This step-by-step exposure gives them the time they need to adapt at each phase of the process. This initiative is part of Dubai Airports' strategy to make travel easier and more inclusive for everyone. Through its We All Meet the World Differently campaign, Dubai Airports adopts inclusive practices and provides continuous training for employees to ensure support for travellers with both visible and invisible challenges at every stage of their journey, from arrival to boarding. Dubai International Airport is the first international airport in the world to be awarded the Certified Autism Center (CAC) designation by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). These achievements reflect Dubai Airports' commitment to supporting neurodivergent travellers and their families and to reinforcing Dubai's position as one of the most inclusive and accessible cities in the world. The travel simulation experience is one of several initiatives implemented by Dubai Airports to improve the travel experience for people of determination and their caregivers.

Dubai Autodrome to stage a packed new 2025/26 motorsport season after historic landmark campaign

Dubai Autodrome General Manager Faisal Al Sahlawi has said the new 2025/26 motorsport season will be one of its busiest after reflecting on an “incredible” milestone campaign that attracted a record-breaking attendance at 24H Dubai during its 20th anniversary celebrations. Dubai Autodrome, a subsidiary of Union Properties, recently closed out its season after hosting more than 15 racing competitions over the last six months. Among the events that took place include the annual endurance motorsport competition, 24H Dubai, which saw more than 70 teams, including the largest GT3, as well as the fifth Asian Le Mans, Formula Regional Middle East Championship, Formula 4 Middle East Championship, Formula Woman Nations Cup and other several regional motorsport events. Furthermore, the venue held more than 80 motorcycle and car track days, and 20 roll racing events for the local community. The season was part of Dubai Autodrome’s 20th anniversary, which was celebrated at the 24H Dubai, and Al Sahlawi believes the upcoming season which will start in October solidifies the venue as a leading destination for motorsport and entertainment in the region. He said: “We are very pleased with the recent motorsport season, which coincided with the 20-year celebrations of Dubai Autodrome. Overall, there was exciting and competitive racing on the track with bigger grids and an array of top international and regional drivers in action, while off the track, there was a record number of spectators for the 24H Dubai with more than 30,000 attendees for this flagship event. This shows that motorsport is growing in the UAE and is going from strength to strength, which bodes well for the future.” He added: “Planning is already underway for the new 2025/26 season, and it will be one of the busiest seasons at Dubai Autodrome, as we have the Gulf Historic back, where iconic 1960s cars and historic F1 cars from the 70s and 80s will all be on display, as well as top racing on the track. There will also be four international races, including the 24H Dubai, and an array of top regional and local motorsport competitions where we expect to have a greater number of participants during the course of the season.” Off the track, Dubai Autodrome’s motorsport season is also contributing to the country’s economic growth. Al Sahlawi said: “Overall, we had approximately more than 55,000 people be part of our motorsport events from race teams, drivers, and officials, and that saw airlines, hotels and hospitality services benefit greatly, especially with their families and friends also travelling. “Not only are we pleased to be playing our part to support the UAE’s growth beyond the motorsport races but is also a testament to the success of Union Properties’ vision of enhancing Dubai Autodrome’s position as a leading motorsport hub in the region.”
