StarCruises’ Star Voyager makes its maiden voyage to Hong Kong
StarCruises marked a glorious return to Hong Kong with the inaugural arrival of its vessel Star Voyager on Friday, 27th June. The vessel’s arrival heralded the beginning of a vibrant 2025 cruise season from one of the world’s premier cruise hubs. As of 27th June and running till 14th November, Star Voyager will offer 45 roundtrip sailings from Hong Kong’s Ocean Terminal of Harbour City centrally located at Tsim Sha Tsui. Located in the heart of Victoria Harbour, the Ocean Terminal connects directly to Harbour City, the largest shopping mall in Hong Kong, and is close to numerous famous tourist attractions. Whether one is a local guest or a tourist arriving from the airport or high-speed rail station, everyone can easily and quickly board the Star Voyager from the heart of the city to start their journey. A warm welcome To commemorate the ship’s arrival, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) deputy commissioner for tourism Joanne Chu joined StarDream Cruises president Michael Goh at a special welcoming ceremony. Goh said of the Star Voyager’s arrival in Hong Kong: “We’re thrilled to celebrate the arrival of Star Voyager in Hong Kong. Following a US$50 million refurbishment, the ship now offers refreshed amenities and a rich variety of itineraries. With exciting Fly & Rail Cruise options and immersive pre- and post-cruise stays, we aim to boost regional travel and further reinforce Hong Kong’s role as a leading cruise hub.” Chu likewise remarked: “The new itineraries of Star Voyager cover Hong Kong, Sanya and other international cruise ports, which will be benefitted from the new measure introduced by the Central Government through CEPA in March this year of allowing Mainland visitors to travel to Hong Kong in transit to join international cruise itineraries involving port-of-call in Mainland cruise ports. Mainland visitors will be able to transit to Hong Kong permit-free to join cruise itineraries by presenting their passports and confirmation documents of the relevant cruise itineraries. The new measure can greatly facilitate Mainland visitors participating in international cruise itineraries, thereby giving a full play to Hong Kong’s role as a core demonstration zone for multi-destination tourism.” Dane Cheng, executive director of the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), was also in attendance at the ceremony and he expressed his delight over the Star Voyager’s homeport deployment from Hong Kong. Cheng said: “The arrival of the Star Voyager brings exciting opportunities for the development of cruise tourism in our city. HKTB looks forward to continuing close collaboration with major cruise companies and the trade to develop more travel products that elevate visitor experiences on shore and promote the growth of Hong Kong’s cruise industry, reinforcing Hong Kong’s position as Asia’s cruise hub.” What guests can expect onboard Travellers can relax as they set sail on the Star Voyager for a luxurious escape blending comfort and adventure. They can relax in stylish rooms or upgrade to Palace Suites with private amenities and 24/7 butler service. Hong Kong Airlines to switch up its frequent flyer programme
Hong Kong Airlines announced today, 27th June, that it will revamp its Fortune Wings Club (FWC) frequent flyer programme from Tuesday, 1st July. The programme makes the switch to a spending-based model for points earned from 1st July onwards. The change is designed to offer members greater flexibility and value; plus, when combined with the launch of new long-haul routes and various service upgrades, frequent flyers may enjoy an elevated travel experience. Built on innovation According to airline vice-president Wilson Yam: "Hong Kong Airlines is the first local carrier to adopt this innovative method for points accrual based on member’s spending. We believe this will offer our existing members a refreshingly straightforward experience, while also attracting new members to the programme." Yam added that the airline is committed to enhancing the passenger journey from providing seamless baggage services and a wide selection of in-flight meals, to optimising its online check-in system and upgrading airport lounge services. These changes are all aimed at delivering a more convenient and comfortable travel experience. Yam said: “Simultaneously, we are continuously expanding our long haul network, having successively resumed and launched services to Vancouver and Sydney. This further strengthens our role as an aviation bridge connecting China with the world, reinforcing Hong Kong's status as an international aviation hub and serving a greater number of travellers." How does it work? Under the new system, members will earn points based on their ticket fare, rather than the distance flown. This means that, regardless of the journey's length, a member's eligible spending will directly translate into points; and elite members can even get additional bonus points. Hong Kong Airlines also optimised the redemption standards for FWC award tickets, providing more attractive options across different routes and cabin classes. For example, a one-way Economy Class ticket to Osaka, which previously required 25,000 FWC points, will now only require 18,000 points. The optimised redemption chart is clearer and more intuitive, allowing members to plan their journeys with greater flexibility.
Cebu Pacific honours overseas Filipino workers as it marks 20 years in Hong Kong
Philippine low-cost carrier Cebu Pacific celebrated the 20th anniversary of its Hong Kong office by paying tribute to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). During the celebration, the airline recognised the invaluable contributions that OFWs have given to the airline’s growth and the progress of the Filipino nation. Cebu Pacific presented its Values Awards at this year’s Gawad Parangal Para sa Bagong Bayani event, honouring five exceptional OFWs who embodied its values of Integrity, Service, Trust, Courage, and the Best of Filipino Spirit. Traditionally given to CEB employees, this was the first time that members of the public were considered eligible for the awards. Airline chief marketing and customer experience officer Candice Iyog said: “OFWs have been with us from the very beginning. They’re not only our most loyal customers but also a part of the Cebu Pacific family This tribute is our way of thanking them for the big roles they play in our journey and our nation’s progress.” Honouring great contributors to the national economy The awards were given on 15th June, and the ceremony served as a fitting culmination of this year’s Migrant Workers’ Day celebration. Each awardee received a plaque of recognition and a complimentary CEB international roundtrip ticket. According to Dante Berido, chair of Hong Kong’s largest OFW organisation Philippine Alliance: “Being recognised for our efforts gives us a deep sense of pride. It means a lot to be seen, valued, and celebrated not just as workers, but as people who make a difference.” As part of its long-term commitment to OFWs, CEB continues to invest in dedicated initiatives such as the upcoming OFW Processing Center at Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA), as well as ongoing collaborations with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and partner non-government organizations (NGOs). The airline also recently launched Juan Flight Closer to Home, a campaign offering aviation engineering roles and full relocation support for OFWs looking to return and rebuild their careers in the Philippines.

This inaugural service comes on the back of the first expansion in bilateral air traffic rights between Australia and Hong Kong in 19 years and we thank the Albanese Federal Government for its role in enabling this important agreement, which reflects the strength of our longstanding cultural and economic ties.” NSW Minister for Jobs and Tourism Steve Kamper, said: “Hong Kong is a priority international market for NSW, with incoming travellers contributing substantially to the NSW visitor economy. The Minns Labor Government has made it very clear; we want to grow our visitor economy and the best way to do this is by increasing airline capacity and unlocking new international markets for NSW. We’ve set our sights on increasing the state’s aviation capacity by 8.5 million seats, and this new Hong Kong route will complement other new routes we’re securing as we work towards landing this goal.” Wang Yu, Consul General of People's Republic of China (Sydney), said: "As the second Hong Kong-based airline to operate the Hong Kong–Sydney route, Hong Kong Airlines not only provides a convenient new option for traveling between China and Australia, but also contributes to enhanced exchanges among students, tourists, business professionals and friends from all walks of life. This new service will strengthen Hong Kong and Sydney’s role as vital gateways for the flow of people and goods, injecting fresh momentum into the economic and cultural ties between China and Australia. Its launch will also attract more international travelers to transit through Hong Kong or Sydney, further strengthening both cities’ positions as global aviation hubs and creating new opportunities for trade and investment. Looking ahead, the Consulate-General of China in Sydney will continue to encourage and support airlines from both China and Australia in restoring or launching new routes based on the principle of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation. We believe that Hong Kong Airlines will continuously enhance its service quality and showcase a good corporate image." Coupled with the various significant destinations that have been inaugurated or reinstated since the start of the year, including Gold Coast in Australia, Vancouver in Canada, and Hulunbuir in Inner Mongolia of mainland China, the airline has cultivated a more extensive and diversified route map. This is a step up for Hong Kong from last year when it was ranked in fourth place. Hong Kong was also ranked second globally in the Muslim Women Friendly Travel Destination (Non-OIC) category and made its debut in first place on the new Muslim-friendly Accessible Travel Destination (Non-OIC) sub-index. These escalations in rank reflects Hong Kong’s ongoing efforts to make travel more inclusive and convenient for Muslim visitors of all needs and backgrounds. At present, the city now has 193 Halal-certified and Muslim-owned eateries and 61 hotels have obtained an accreditation rating from CR, which is a testament to the availability of Muslim-friendly facilities at the hotels. According to HKTB regional director for Southeast Asia Liew Chian Jia: “Since our Muslim-friendly push, HKTB has seen an increasing interest and participation in CR’s accreditation program among the Hong Kong stakeholders.
