Philippine Airlines to offer five weekly flights on its Manila-Seattle route

Philippine Airlines (PAL) announced an increase in flights between Manila and Seattle later this year. The Philippine flag-carrier will increase the frequency to five weekly flights from the current thrice-weekly service from 25th November.  Coming just one year after the Manila-Seattle route was launched in October of last year, this expansion reflects the growing appeal of the airline’s non-stop route to Seattle. Currently, this route is the only direct airline link between the Philippines and the U.S. Pacific Northwest.  Airline president Richard Nuttall said: “Our decision to increase frequencies to Seattle highlights the importance of the US market to the Philippine Airlines global network, and in particular the great value of Seattle as a gateway, not just to the Washington and Oregon areas, but to cities across the United States that we can now serve through our ongoing partnership with Alaska Airlines.” Nuttall added that PAL is focused on developing the market as a way of helping Americans plan their vacation trips to the Philippines and other Asian countries, opening up more opportunities for businesses to build up commercial activities, and enabling Filipino-Americans to have more frequent reunions with their families back home. A new schedule  PAL will introduce new Tuesday and Thursday departures from Manila and Seattle from 25th November, for flights operating every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.  Thanks to the increased number of flights, travellers gain greater flexibility to structure their travel plans, with more dates to choose from.   These flights offer seamless and convenient connections to PAL’s extensive network across the Philippines, Southeast Asia, North Asia, and Greater China, as well as to numerous US destinations via Alaska Airlines, PAL’s service partner.   PAL and Alaska Airlines currently have a frequent flyer partnership that expands travel opportunities for loyal customers.  The Alaska Airlines hub at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is recognized as the largest airline hub on the entire U.S. West Coast. Ongoing development The planned expansion aims to meet growing travel demand to and from the US West Coast and beyond, as part of a long-term investment by PAL to develop business and tourist travel flows between the United States and the Philippines.   With Seattle, PAL now serves eight destinations in North America, offering nonstop flights to New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver, Toronto, Honolulu, and Guam. Also, this increase in flights significantly boosts the airline’s cargo capacity of up to 40 tonnes per week between Manila and Seattle.

Belmont Hotel Manila promotes sustainable culture through “Paghabi at Kape”

Belmont Hotel Manila recently launched a cultural initiative titled Paghabi at Kape which highlights Filipino artistry, tradition, and sustainability. Launched at the hotel’s Cafe Belmont, the initiative is a partnership with Jeannie Laccay of Aruga Handwoven and SGD Coffee.  Belmont’s cluster general manager Sonny Alvaro said of the event: “This is more than a cultural activity. Paghabi at Kape is our way of honoring traditions while weaving together sustainability, identity, and community.” Hotel director of operations Mayann Malapote declared: “We’re celebrating more than just beautiful woven pieces. We’re celebrating culture, collaboration, and meaningful conversations over two things that bring people together: fabric and coffee. At Belmont Hotel Manila, we believe in giving space to stories that matter and this event is one of those moments.” Likewise, Aruga Handwoven’s Laccay shared: “The work we do is more than a livelihood: it’s a responsibility. Our weaves carry the spirit of our ancestors. Every thread is a story, and every design is an echo of the past.” Philippine speciality coffee advocate Rich Watanabe added: “We’re proud to share our traditions here. Our dances, crafts, and coffee tell the story of who we are. Through Paghabi at Kape, we get to keep that story alive and pass it on.” A special exhibition of Aruga Handwoven textiles will be on display and available for purchase at Belmont Hotel Manila until 30th July, with all proceeds going towards the weavers of Nueva Vizcaya whilst preserving their cultural heritage. Not just another exhibition More than just a cultural showcase, Paghabi at Kape reflects Belmont Hotel Manila’s commitment to sustainable hospitality, cultural preservation, and community empowerment.  The event also cast the spotlight on the slow fashion movement which encourages mindful consumption and appreciation for Filipino indigenous crafts. The primary focus of the event was the indigenous Isinay weaving of the women of Nueva Vizcaya who are being supported by Aruga Handwoven. These textiles reflect the rich heritage of the Bugkalot hunters, showcasing traditional patterns and stories passed down through generations.  To further elevate the cultural experience, dancers from Mountain Province performed traditional tribal dances, offering guests a dynamic and soulful glimpse into Cordilleran heritage. Guests also enjoyed freshly brewed SGD Coffee from Sagada, which is known for its high-altitude Arabica beans cultivated through sustainable and ethical farming practices.  SGD’s advocacy for local farmers perfectly aligned with the event’s mission of inclusive growth.

New NAIA Infra Corporation notes rising number of international flights at Manila’s main air hub

The New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) reported a steady increase in new international flights at the Philippines' primary air hub as of today, 1st July. The NNIC report also noted a growing number of carriers offering services via Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). This came shortly after national flag-carrier Philippine Airlines launched direct services to Da Nang.  Prior to this, leading low-cost carrier Cebu Pacific was the first to launch the nonstop flight to the Vietnamese city in December 2023. Quick wins In a media statement, NNIC president Ramon Ang declared: “We are scoring quick wins where we can by improving systems, facilities, and passenger flow. The results: we are now able to accommodate more flights and reduce congestion at the terminals.” International carriers such as Air France, Air Canada, and Vietjet Airlines began operating new routes via the country's main gateway. So far, the recently-launched direct services at NAIA include flights to Seattle (USA), Brisbane (Australia), Paris (France), Sapporo (Japan), and Vancouver (Canada). Cebu Pacific has also begun offering direct flights to Chiang Mai, Thailand, providing more options amid rising demand. NNIC officials advised that travellers could expect more international flights via NAIA throughout the remaining months of the year, with Air India launching direct services to New Delhi in October and United Airlines adding a second daily service to San Francisco. They added that these developments show how ongoing efforts to modernize and streamline operations are helping NAIA support this growth. A number of abandoned aircraft have likewise been removed from the airside, freeing up parking space and improving aircraft turnaround and ground movement. NNIC is also in the process of upgrading check-in and baggage handling equipment to speed up the process.
