The new www.riu.com has posed some major technological challenges. What’s more, as the new website is fully integrated with the chain's hotel management system, users can check room availability in real time with up-to-date pricing and booking details. The new RIU website also includes information on all of the new and improved products that the hotel chain has introduced in recent years, such as the Elite Club service or the RIU Party section, where users can see when parties are being held at each hotel and even book their spot in the VIP area. The new destinations and hotels sections have a visual design to inspire customers and present interesting information in an intuitive format. Likewise, the RIU Class loyalty channel takes pride of place with a fully revamped section, making it easier for users to log in to and sign up for the programme thanks to the addition of Google and Facebook buttons. And, of course, all users will be able to find out more about RIU's social commitment in the Proudly Committed section. Likewise, during their stay, they can use it to check in, book a table at a restaurant, make an appointment at the spa, contact reception or view the entertainment schedule. In short, the new RIU app is the chain’s strategic communication, sales and 360º customer relations channel. The previous RIU app reached 2.5 million downloads for Android and achieved a rating of 4.8 out of 5 in the Apple store. The chain now wants to maintain the same levels of excellence with this updated mobile application, which is available for iOS and Android devices, and has improved the user experience with features such as a new, more intuitive booking process that is fully conceptualised for each device or the new hotels and destinations section with a more inspiring and visual design, as well as the greater visibility of the RIU Class loyalty programme. The new RIU website and app represent a step forward in the chain's ambition to face the future challenges of digital business and user engagement, ensuring further improvements in the booking experience and its integral relationship with customers.

One of the most notable features found in modern travel apps is the ability to search and compare different travel options in one convenient location. Users can easily input their desired destinations and travel dates, and the app will generate a list of available flights, hotels, and rental cars. This feature not only saves time but also allows travellers to make informed decisions based on price, ratings, and amenities. Furthermore, many apps provide filters and sorting options to help users narrow down their choices based on preferences, making the planning process more personalized and efficient. Price Optimization in Modern Travel Apps Price optimization is a crucial feature in modern travel apps, designed to help users secure the best deals while planning their trips. This functionality not only enhances user satisfaction but also drives customer loyalty, making it an essential aspect of travel portal development. Here are some key components of price optimization that modern travel apps offer: Real-time Price Tracking: Users can monitor fluctuations in prices for flights, hotels, and rental cars. By leveraging real-time data, apps can provide insights into the best times to purchase, helping users save money. Price Comparison: Modern travel apps enable users to compare prices across various platforms in one convenient location. This feature simplifies the decision-making process, allowing travelers to evaluate options based on cost, amenities, and user ratings. By presenting a comprehensive overview of available choices, these tools empower users to make informed decisions that align with their budgets. Deal Alerts and Notifications: Many travel apps offer personalized deal alerts, notifying users of special promotions, discounts, or limited-time offers. This proactive approach keeps users engaged and encourages them to book through the app, as they can take advantage of exclusive deals tailored to their preferences. Loyalty Program Integration: Integrating loyalty programs within travel apps enhances the user experience by allowing travelers to earn and redeem points seamlessly. This feature not only incentivizes repeat bookings but also fosters a sense of belonging among users, as they can track their rewards and enjoy exclusive benefits. By incorporating these price optimization features, travel apps not only improve the overall user experience but also contribute to the growth of the travel industry. As travelers increasingly seek value and convenience, these functionalities play a vital role in meeting their expectations and enhancing their journey. Impact on Travel Industry Stakeholders The rise of mobile travel apps has significantly impacted various stakeholders within the travel industry, including travelers, travel agencies, airlines, hotels, and technology providers. Each of these groups has experienced changes in how they operate, interact, and deliver services due to the increasing reliance on mobile technology. Mobile travel apps have transformed how travellers plan and enjoy their trips. With easy access to information and personalized recommendations, travellers can make informed choices that enhance their experiences. The ability to book accommodations, flights, and activities on their smartphones allows them to manage their itineraries, resulting in a more enjoyable travel experience. Traditional travel agencies are adapting to the rise of mobile travel apps by integrating technology into their services. Many agencies now offer app-based solutions, combining personalized service with streamlined processes. This hybrid approach enables agencies to focus on delivering unique experiences and expert advice instead of merely booking services. Airlines and hotels are also responding to mobile travel apps by investing in their own applications to boost customer engagement and streamline operations. Features like mobile check-in, room selection, and real-time flight updates enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty. AlUla World Archaeology Symposium 2024 to explore theme of mobile communities

AlUla will host its second major archaeology gathering on 30-31 October, offering a unique opportunity for world leaders in archaeology and cultural heritage to engage in global dialogue and best practice. The AlUla World Archaeology Symposium (AWAS 2024) will convene an interdisciplinary group of experts and practitioners from archaeology, cultural heritage and related fields to debate on subjects ranging from trade, commerce and exchange to effects of climate change and conflict on mobile communities. AWAS 2024 highlights will include keynote addresses by Dr Willeke Wendrich, Professor emeritus at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA); Dr Stefano Biagetti, Professor of Archaeology at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona; and Peter DeBrine, Leader of Sustainable Tourism Programme, UNESCO World Heritage Centre, Paris. Further presentations, panels, workshops and case studies will be led by speakers from Saudi Arabia and abroad. A specially curated showcase of objects discovered in AlUla through archaeology missions will be on display, as well as a first-look preview of a world-first exhibition that will feature archaeological artefacts from the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli (MANN) in Naples, Italy. Site visits to key archaeological sites in and around AlUla, Tayma and Khaybar will be included in the programme. The AWAS 2024 theme – “Moving forward: past, present and future in the archaeology and heritage of mobile communities” – is timely and enduring. From prehistory onwards, people have moved to access opportunities, to improve living conditions, to explore, but also in response to environmental constraints, natural disaster, conflict, and socio-political instability. In a world where moving has become easier for many but not for all, a world that has experienced the implications of a sudden lack of mobility during the COVID-19 pandemic, AWAS 2024 hopes to challenge traditional assumptions on past and present mobility. Dr. Abdulrahman A Alsuhaibani, Vice President of Culture, Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU), archaeologist and curator, said: “AlUla has served as a crossroads for connection, cultural and knowledge exchange between civilisations for thousands of years. Today, AlUla is one of the world’s most active areas for archaeological exploration, with over 30,000 areas of archaeological interest identified and more than a dozen active research projects across a rich cultural landscape.” “We established this event to become a progressive and leading platform for dialogue and collaboration, holding the first gathering in 2023 with an alternate format of Symposium one year and Summit the next. We are already laying the groundwork to build on the momentum of this event and for AWAS 2025.” In recent years RCU-sponsored research by foreign and Saudi archaeologists has shed light on aspects of AlUla’s ancient history, from the monumental structures known as mustatils to large-scale hunting traps known as ‘desert kites’, long-distance ‘funerary avenues’ that linked settlements and pastures, and Neolithic dwellings known as ‘standing stone circles’. Together the studies are showing that the early inhabitants of north-west Arabia were more connected to neighbouring regions than previously believed, and that their society was more complex than had been thought. AWAS serves as a global platform and community that convenes a wide range of interdisciplinary stakeholders to discuss and create solutions for the future of archaeology and cultural heritage management. Where the inaugural AlUla World Archaeology Summit (AWAS 2023) created a space for high-level dialogue on contemporary issues in archaeology and cultural heritage that was both academic and accessible, this year’s AlUla World Archaeology Symposium (AWAS 2024) is a more intimate gathering for deeper thematic academic conversations. Summit and symposium will continue to alternate, complementing one another and analogous to an aerial survey one year and site excavation the next. AWAS 2024 will be held in Maraya, a multipurpose venue at AlUla that holds the world record for largest mirrored building (9,740 glass panels).

Consumer

Travel sector dominates mobile traffic, but just 25% of consumers are confident booking a flight or hotel on their phone

The latest statistics from Quantum Metric reveal that the travel industry sees the highest share of mobile traffic (73%), yet just 24% of consumers book their hotels and flights completely on mobile. In fact, unmet demands around app stability, payment reliability and security may be hindering mobile booking conversions. In the new mobile benchmark report, ‘The role of mobile performance in building consumer confidence’, key findings include: 59% of consumers research their next trip on mobile. However, they may not follow through with the transaction as 69% of shoppers research high-value items on mobile and then buy on desktop. In fact, just 24% book their hotels and flights completely on mobile, with desktop order values in the travel sector nearly two times higher than mobile in 2024. Just 17% of people feel confident making purchases over $250 on mobile. And only 25% feel confident booking a flight or hotel on mobile. The key cause of distrust and discomfort on mobile is errors that cause inaccuracies or roadblocks (43%), followed by a lack of tools compared to desktop (33%) and security concerns (25%). 45% of consumers have encountered bugs when shopping on mobile, causing half to abandon their activity. Additionally, 55% would abandon transactions that take longer than 3-5 minutes. Danielle Harvey, Global VP, head of travel & hospitality strategy, quantum etric says: “The fact that consumers are spending more time on mobile, but just one in five people regularly buy on their device shows a clear disconnect between smartphone usage and mobile commerce conversions. This is likely costing businesses sales, but making the right investments now can mitigate customer concerns and unlock the true potential of mobile (ahead of peak periods like Black Friday and Cyber Monday). By leveraging data-driven insights to better understand customer’s mobile journeys, offering personalised experiences and enhancing security, businesses can transform mobile's promise into profit.”

Navigating the Digital Journey: How Mobile Apps are Transforming Travel Planning

Travel planning is now easier with mobile apps. Technology has made it simple to plan trips with just a few taps on a screen. From selecting their desired destination to booking flight tickets, arranging accommodations, and exploring local attractions, every aspect can be handled conveniently using these mobile applications. Once reliant on printed maps and travel agencies, today's travelers turn to their smartphones for instant access to a wealth of information and services. Etraviax Technologies, leading Travel technology company, offering the latest mobile app development to the clients   is changing how we travel by revolutionizing the way we explore the world. High-speed internet and smartphones have made travel booking apps grow. This has made travel planning easier and more organized for people worldwide. On the other hand, the role of travel technology is increasingly paramount behind the scenes. Global Distribution Systems (GDS) are crucial in the travel industry. They help integrate various booking platforms. They also provide real-time access to travel information. Travel companies use GDS system to book flights, reserve hotels, rent cars, and more, all connected through one network. GDS plays a key role in digital travel planning by giving instant access to a wide range of travel services worldwide. Evolution of Travel Planning Methods In the past, planning a trip required many visits to travel agencies or numerous calls to hotels for reservations. Travel planning has changed a lot thanks to Global Distribution Systems (GDS). Now, travel agents can easily see schedules, prices, and availability all in one system. It replaced the tedious process with an organized, efficient framework, revolutionizing the travel industry in an unprecedented way. The cataclysmic shift from traditional methods to the digital era has instigated a major digital transformation in the sector. The emergence of numerous digital platforms offered by travel technology companies has simplified travel planning. These mobile apps give power to customers, letting them easily book flights, hotels, and plan trips with just a few clicks. The evolution signifies a paradigm shift aimed at making travel more convenient, personalized, and accessible to all. The journey starts with planning and includes technology at every step, not just at the destination. Mobile App Revolution: Transforming Travel Planning The rise of mobile applications has brought a significant transformation to the travel industry, notably in travel planning. These apps provide helpful travel solutions. They combine services such as travel updates, hotel bookings, flight reservations, local transportation options, and user feedback. All of these services are conveniently available in one place. Having travel apps on your phone makes it easy to plan and manage your trips. They are essential tools for organizing travel logistics and are convenient to use on the go. Travel booking has become seamless with the integration of Global Distribution Systems (GDS) in these mobile apps. GDS platforms provide real-time inventory management and booking services for airlines, hotels, car rentals, and other travel services. When you enter a destination, these platforms show you all the flights, places to stay, and transportation options with details. Accessing and comparing services globally has made booking travel easier and improved the user experience in digital travel planning. Global Distribution Systems (GDS) in Modern Travel GDSs have improved the way travel bookings are done and are essential for the global tourism industry. These platforms assist travel agents in booking hotels, flights, car rentals, and other services. They provide real-time access to inventory and pricing information. This makes it easy for travel agents to make bookings quickly and efficiently. These platforms are the main booking tools in the industry, making reservation processes easier for agents and saving time and resources. The role of GDS, however, extends beyond providing a hub for travel transactions. In today's digital age, travel systems have changed to give users personalized experiences. Agents can now personalize services to meet individual client needs better than ever before. Travel can be customized to meet the client's preferences. This includes everything from the specifics of the trip to the accommodations they choose. This customization results in a one-of-a-kind and memorable experience for the client. GDS in the travel industry is more than just a system. It helps create personalized travel experiences by providing essential services for travelers. Personalization and Customization in Travel Tech The travel industry now offers personalized services to customers by using data analytics, AI, and machine learning. This allows them to push boundaries and provide customized experiences. These technologies revolutionized the way people plan and strategize travel. AI uses complicated formulas to study a lot of user data. This data includes past searches, bookings, preferences, online reviews, and social media interactions. As a result, it offers highly personalized travel recommendations that align closely with individual preferences, needs, goals, and budgets. AI algorithms use a lot of data to give personalized recommendations to travelers. Travel app users look at things like what users like, what they've booked before, and current travel trends. Travel apps use machine learning to keep improving their suggestions, so users always get the best information. For travel agency owners, AI-powered apps streamline operations, automate repetitive tasks, and enhance customer service, ultimately driving efficiency and profitability. Machine learning, a part of AI, helps improve personalized recommendations. It learns from users' searches, interactions, and behaviors to improve travel suggestions. In essence, these sophisticated technologies work collectively to customize travel experiences, allowing companies to connect more deeply with their customers on a personal level. They offer customized solutions in real-time, enabling travelers to design trips that meet their unique expectations, thereby revolutionizing the overall travel experience. Enhancing travel experiences with technology Technology has improved the travel industry by offering many ways to enhance the traveler's experience. Real-time updates are key among these, a development that has granted travelers unprecedented autonomy and flexibility. Whether it's analyzing traffic patterns for optimal driving times or tracking flights for delay predictions, these updates have removed much of the uncertainty inherent in travel. This improvement, in turn, promotes a sense of security and allows the individual to focus on the enjoyment of their experiences. Technology has made travel easier by connecting different platforms and services. Travelers can now get directions and make digital payments for various travel services. Digital payments have expedited the transaction process, enhanced security, and reduced the need to carry physical money around, improving overall user convenience. As travel technology advances, it will continue to improve and enhance travel experiences. Future Trends: Innovations in Travel Technology Travel technology innovations are already spearheading a new direction in the travel industry, changing the way travelers plan, experience, and remember their trips. One such promising technology is the rise of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). AR overlays the real world with digital information, while VR submerges users in a complete digital environment. Both technologies have the potential to transform travel—AR can provide real-time information and context to travelers exploring unknown locales, while VR can offer immersive "try before you buy" experiences, helping travelers to make informed decisions. Another significant development comes from the incorporation of voice assistants in travel planning and experiences. With the increasing ubiquity of voice assistant devices like Amazon’s Alexa or Google’s Assistant, travel brands are now making their services accessible through these technologies. Travelers can use voice commands for searching flights, booking hotels, discovering local attractions, translating languages, and even for packing tips. Undoubtedly, digital tools are enhancing every aspect of travel, right from planning to the actual trip and even post-travel experiences. Introducing blockchain into travel platforms Blockchain technology offers a revolutionary solution for securing transactions and enhancing trust between travelers and service providers. By tokenizing bookings and leveraging decentralized ledgers, blockchain ensures the integrity and transparency of every transaction, minimizing the risk of fraud or unauthorized alterations. For travel agency owners, adopting blockchain-based systems streamlines the booking process, reducing reliance on intermediaries and administrative overhead costs. Additionally, blockchain enables instant and secure payments, eliminating the need for lengthy processing times and reducing transaction fees. Furthermore, the immutable nature of blockchain ensures that all booking records are tamper-proof and verifiable, enhancing accountability and customer satisfaction. Using blockchain technology in travel improves security and efficiency. Blockchain technology in travel technology enhances security and efficiency. It allows travel agency owners to offer a seamless booking experience for their clients. This leads to increased loyalty and growth in the industry.
