Swiss International Airlines (SWISS) has relaunched flights to Singapore’s Changi airport.
The airline pulled out Changi in 2009, when it ceased operating the extension of its Zurich-Bangkok-Singapore service. From this week however, SWISS will resume flights to Singapore with a new direct service from Zurich. Flights will operate daily using a 219-seat Airbus A340 aircraft.
“With our daily non-stop service between Singapore and Switzerland, we want to meet the growing travel needs of both business and leisure travellers between our countries,” said SWISS’s CEO, Harry Hohmeister. “In addition, our double-night service perfectly complements our Star Alliance partners’ offering and we are delighted to now bring the best of service, products and hospitality from Switzerland to Singapore.”
The new route, coupled with increased services from Singapore Airlines, means that Changi airport will be connected to 14 major European cities with more than 300 weekly flights by the end of this month.
“Europe is an important market for Changi airport,” said Lee Seow Hiang, CEO of Changi Airport Group. “Passenger traffic between Europe and Singapore has grown steadily over the years, increasing at a compounded annual rate of 6% since 2006. For the 12 months ending February 2013, some 2.6 million passengers travelled between Singapore and Europe, up 8% year-on-year. With the return of SWISS, travellers now have greater access into the heart of Europe from Changi.”
The new SWISS flights will leave Zurich each day at 2245, arriving into Singapore at 1715 the following day. The return leg will depart Changi airport at 2310, getting back into Zurich at 0610 the next morning.
