SIA moves in-flight newspapers online

Singapore Airlines passengers will now be able to access free digital newspapers and magazines via their mobile devices.

Using SITA’s DigitalMedia solution within the SIA app, the new service will enable passengers to choose from a wide range of reading matter before, during, and after the flight. The content is available on iOS and Android devices, using adaptive technology that adjusts to different screen sizes.

This will replace the airline’s traditional printed in-flight reading matter. As well as providing more options for passengers, removing printed magazines and newspapers will also help SIA to reduce weight, fuel burn and emissions, as well as cutting costs associated with the supply and disposal of printed reading matter.

In a survey, 65% of passengers said they would access entertainment on their own device while 46% would be happy to watch an in-flight movie on a mobile.
