British and Irish marriages in Jamaica up 40%

British and Irish couples choosing to get married in Jamaica are up 40% from the previous year. 

The Jamaica Tourist Board says the island achieved a record breaking 210,103 visitors from the UK & Ireland in the period between January – December 2016.

Weddings and honeymoons sales represented a 4.9% share of the total number of arrivals with 10,377 recorded stopover visits.

According to the tourist board, there are several reasons why British and Irish couples are choosing to get married in Jamaica. These include being able to be married 24 hours after arriving on the island; all marriage documents can be provided and received in English; there are value all-inclusive resorts such as Sandals, Beaches and Riu; there are regional departures across the UK from cities such as Cardiff, Newcastle and Glasgow – allowing couples to take local groups.
