Stan the robot employed for airport car parking

Travellers using airport meet and greet or valet services could soon have their cars parked by a robot. A new innovation from Stanley Robotics allows passengers to park their cars in the airport car park, before the robot called “Stan” collects it and parks it separately. Stan, which is loaded with the passenger’s car and flight details, is currently being trialled at Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport.

Delta rolls out fingerprint boarding passes

Delta frequent flyers at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport will soon be able to travel using the fingerprints as a boarding passes. Under the new system, Delta SkyMiles Members will be able to forego traditional paper or mobile boarding passes and instead use their fingerprints as proof of identity. This will be accepted at the airport lounge, baggage check area and boarding gate.

Thailand gives away SIM cards and family offers

Travellers to Thailand can now get free SIM cards and a mobile app loaded with family-friendly offers. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and mobile provider True will provide 1,000 SIM cards to arriving families each month. When travellers register the SIM cards, they will receive an SMS with instructions to download the “Family Fun Thailand” app, which contains a range of discounts.

Lufthansa provides 20,000 iPads to cabin crew

Lufthansa has started to equip 20,000 flight attendants with iPads Minis, in a move the airline called a “major step in Lufthansa’s year of digitization”. The iPads will be loaded with the ‘Lufthansa crewFlight’ app, which includes a seating plan of each flight and information on every passenger. iPads have already been made available to Lufthansa’s cockpit crew the beginning of 2015.
