Agoda, the digital travel platform headquartered in Singapore, has observed a significant rise in travel interest among Japanese travellers for the 2026 summer music festival season. According to Agoda's data, accommodation searches for Niigata, the host of the FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL, have surged by 114% year-on-year, highlighting a growing trend of music event-driven travel.

Niigata's appeal is not solely due to the festival itself but also its picturesque setting in the Naeba area of Yuzawa. The region offers festivalgoers a unique experience with its open-air setting, mountain scenery, and immersive atmosphere. Beyond the music, visitors can enjoy hot springs, local cuisine, and scenic landscapes, making it an attractive destination for an extended getaway.

This trend of integrating music festivals with broader travel plans is not limited to Niigata. Agoda reports increased accommodation searches across other major festival destinations in Japan, including Tokyo, Osaka, and Okinawa. For instance, domestic searches for SUMMER SONIC 2026 in Tokyo rose by 29%, whilst Okinawa's MasterPeace 2026 saw a 25% increase.

Tadashi Ikai, Senior Country Director at Agoda International Japan, noted, "Music festivals are increasingly becoming a travel purpose in their own right, extending beyond simple event attendance." This shift suggests that music events are inspiring travellers to explore destinations across Japan, whether through regional getaways or city-based trips.

Agoda continues to support this trend by offering a wide range of accommodation options and travel products, enabling travellers to enjoy both the events and the unique experiences each destination offers
