Aurigny showcases passenger stories with seat installation

Aurigny Airlines captured public attention on Friday with an innovative installation on the Market Terrace, featuring 72 seats that represent the capacity of an ATR72-600 aircraft. Each seat symbolised a real journey taken by passengers across Aurigny's routes, showcasing personal stories of travel for medical needs, education, and family connections. This event also served as a prelude to World Pilot Day on 26 April, honouring the 50 Guernsey-based pilots who operate over 10,000 flights annually.

The installation was designed to be an immersive experience, inviting visitors to engage with the narratives and reflect on the importance of air connectivity in Guernsey. Philip Saunders, Chief Commercial Officer at Aurigny, remarked, “This was about bringing the purpose of our airline into the open, every story reflects a real moment where these flights made a difference, and behind each one is a Captain and First Officer who ensured that journey could happen safely.”

Adding to the event's appeal, local artist Ross Le Brun contributed a live artistic element by painting the outline of an ATR aircraft, further drawing attention to the installation. Aurigny, founded in 1968 and owned by the States of Guernsey, continues to play a crucial role in connecting the Channel Islands with the UK and Europe, operating essential routes to destinations like Alderney, Southampton, and Gatwick. The airline remains committed to providing safe and efficient air services, supporting the wellbeing of the islands' residents and visitors alike
