TDM AWARDS - NOMINATE NOW!

Remote work enthusiasts looking to combine productivity with leisure may want to reconsider Australia as a workcation destination. A recent study by Compare the Market reveals that Canberra, Perth, and the Gold Coast are the least favourable cities in the Asia-Pacific region for workcations. The study assessed factors such as internet speeds, accommodation costs, and available attractions.

Australia's cities lagged primarily due to their relatively slow internet speeds, with average fixed broadband at 157.56 Mbps and mobile speeds at 115.07 Mbps. High accommodation costs further impacted their rankings. Canberra, for instance, offers the most expensive one-month rental at $1,107 (US$1,107), coupled with only 52 attractions, the fewest in the study.

Perth and the Gold Coast also fared poorly, with Perth's cheapest monthly accommodation costing $970 (US$970) and a cappuccino priced at $4.23 (US$4.23), the second most expensive in Australia. The Gold Coast, despite its beaches, offers only 13 coworking spaces and 237 attractions.

Adrian Taylor, Chief Executive - General Insurance at Compare the Market, emphasised the importance of choosing the right destination for a workcation. "Strong internet connectivity, affordability, and plenty of attractions can all contribute to a more enjoyable workcation experience," he stated.

In contrast, Hanoi, Vietnam, emerged as the top workcation spot, boasting 9,038 attractions and affordable accommodation starting at $71 (US$71) per month. The findings highlight the growing appeal of Asian cities for remote workers seeking a balance between work and leisure
