Chinese travellers have shown the most significant growth in interest in visiting Indonesia during the first half of 2026, according to digital travel platform Agoda.
The data, based on accommodation searches from January to June 2026, highlights a 44% year-on-year increase in interest from China, marking the first time China has entered the top five source markets for Indonesia, surpassing Japan.
Malaysia and Singapore continue to be the top contributors to Indonesia's inbound travel interest, with growth rates of 18% and 17% respectively. This shift in travel preferences is partly attributed to the weakening rupiah, making Indonesia a more attractive destination for value-conscious travellers.
Bali remains the most popular destination for international visitors, but other locations like Jakarta, Batam Island, Lombok, and Bandung are also drawing significant interest. Notably, Sukabumi has emerged as the fastest-growing destination, with a 46-fold increase in interest, driven by its natural attractions such as highlands, waterfalls, and geopark landscapes.
In eastern Indonesia, Manado and Gorontalo have seen search interest triple compared to the same period last year, appealing to travellers with their marine biodiversity and unique cultural experiences. Gede Gunawan, Senior Country Director Indonesia at Agoda, noted, "The strong growth in interest to destinations like Sukabumi, Manado, and Gorontalo show that travellers are eager to explore more of what Indonesia has to offer beyond Bali."
Agoda remains committed to supporting Indonesia's tourism growth, offering a platform with over 130,000 flight routes and more than 6 million holiday properties
