The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA), Hotels Canada, and Hoteles Por México have jointly called for a long-term extension of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) following the 2026 World Cup. The event, hosted across Canada, Mexico, and the United States, showcased the benefits of seamless cross-border travel, with over six million fans attending matches.

The coalition emphasised that extending the USMCA would provide businesses with the certainty needed to invest and maintain integrated supply chains. Rosanna Maietta, President and CEO of AHLA, stated, "A strong North American partnership provides certainty for businesses, helps keep travel affordable, and strengthens one of the world's most integrated travel economies."

Beth McMahon, President and CEO of Hotels Canada, added that extending the agreement would ensure long-term stability, facilitating investment and supporting cross-border supply chains. Jorge Paoli Díaz, President of Hoteles Por México, highlighted that travel is a shared economic strength for North America, supporting jobs and expanding tourism.

The USMCA also plays a crucial role in workforce mobility, with provisions like TN-1 visas aiding in the recruitment of experienced hotel managers across borders. This mobility is vital for meeting growing demand in the hospitality sector.

In 2025, North America was one of the largest tourism markets globally, with the US welcoming 68.3 million international visitors, Mexico 47.8 million, and Canada 19.8 million. The coalition believes that modernising cross-border mobility and digital travel processes will further enhance economic competitiveness in the region
