Japan’s national parks get connected with Wi-Fi

Visitors to Japan’s national parks will soon be able to learn more about the local area by connecting to Wi-Fi.

The Japan Times reports that the country’s Environment Ministry is planning to set up public wireless services at parks across the country by the end of the 2017 financial year, in a bid to attract more international tourists.

Under a project announced recently by the ministry, free Wi-Fi will be made available in 63 visitor information centres within the parks. This will improve the centres’ ability to provide visitors with more information about local flora and fauna, as well as the surrounding terrain.

Multilingual exhibits and translation software will be also introduced at the centres to further enhance their ability to cater to overseas travellers.

This is another part of Japan’s national strategy to attract more international tourists, as it prepares to host the 2020 Olympics.
