TDM AWARDS - NOMINATE NOW!

The 34th Macao International Fireworks Display Contest, organised by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), commenced on 12 September and will continue until 4 October. This year, the event features a new addition of large-scale drone shows, enhancing the spectacle with the theme "Set Sail for Macao, where the Silk Road Sparkles". The contest aims to boost Macao's tourism and nighttime economy by integrating vibrant community activities alongside the fireworks.

MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes emphasised the event's significance, stating that it remains Macao's iconic annual attraction. "This year, ten dazzling fireworks displays will be staged in the Contest with the debut of large-scale drone shows, to orchestrate wondrous stories in a symphony of lights and music for a new pinnacle of enjoyment," she said.

The contest will see ten fireworks companies from Brazil, Switzerland, Italy, Canada, Portugal, Korea, Thailand, China, the Philippines, and the United Kingdom lighting up the sky. The displays, each lasting about 18 minutes, will occur at 9 p.m. and 9:40 p.m. on 12, 19, and 25 September, and 1 and 4 October, coinciding with the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day.

This year's contest is divided into three chapters: "Encounter with History", "Encounter with Civilisation", and "Encounter with the Future". Over 3,400 drones will create stunning formations, opening and closing the event with the first and final nights themed as "Encounter with History" and "Encounter with the Future". The inclusion of new countries like Brazil, Switzerland, Italy, and Portugal highlights Macao's role as an international exchange platform.
