As Asia cements its position as the world's fastest-growing tourism region, travel technology platform Omio is doubling down on its ambitions in the region with a $10 million strategic investment from Granite-Integral, aimed at accelerating its expansion across Japan and Southeast Asia. The investment reflects growing confidence in Asia-Pacific's travel boom, with the region expected to experience the fastest tourism growth globally over the next five years.
At the same time, travellers are increasingly combining trains, buses, ferries and flights within a single itinerary, driving demand for seamless multimodal booking platforms. Omio said the new funding will help deepen its transport network across Japan and Southeast Asia, strengthen partnerships with regional transport operators, enhance its customer experience and expand its regional workforce, including its AI-focused technology hub in Singapore.
The announcement follows Omio's launch in Japan earlier this year, where the company says it has already witnessed strong demand from international visitors booking not only journeys along the country's famous Golden Route linking Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, but also trips to lesser-known mountain destinations, sacred pilgrimage routes and coastal communities. The company has continued expanding its Japanese transport offering through partnerships with operators including Japan Railways and Willer Express, enabling travellers to search, compare and book multiple transport options through a single platform.
The move comes as multimodal travel becomes increasingly mainstream. Industry forecasts suggest that nearly half of travellers are now planning journeys involving multiple modes of transport, making integrated booking platforms an increasingly important part of the travel ecosystem.
“Japan is one of the most exciting travel markets in the world today. Millions of travellers visit every year, but planning journeys across different operators and transport modes can still be complex, particularly beyond the major cities. With Granite-Integral's unparalleled regional expertise, we intend to accelerate a new era of connected travel in Japan, expand our presence across Southeast Asia and continue building a more connected future for travel across Asia,” said Naren Shaam, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Omio.
Granite-Integral, a joint venture between Granite Asia and Japan's Integral Corporation, said the investment reflects the long-term potential it sees in Asia's evolving travel landscape.
"Japan and Southeast Asia represent some of the most important long-term opportunities in global travel, with growing demand for more connected journeys across the region," said CK Choun, Co-Head of Granite-Integral.
The investment also highlights the growing importance of transport accessibility in destination choice. As travellers venture beyond traditional tourism hotspots in search of more authentic and diverse experiences, technology platforms capable of integrating rail, coach, ferry and air travel are expected to play an increasingly important role in shaping how visitors move across the region.
For Omio, the latest investment represents more than geographic expansion—it signals a broader push to position Asia at the heart of the next generation of connected, multimodal travel.
