Queenstown Airport has announced a new partnership with the Queenstown Trails Trust to promote active travel and sustainable tourism in the Whakatipu region. This collaboration aims to enhance community wellbeing and preserve the area's natural beauty for future generations.

The airport will contribute $20,000 (£15,000) annually to further develop the Queenstown Trails network, which spans over 200 kilometres. This initiative aligns with the airport's strategic goals and its ambition to become the world’s most bike-friendly airport. Mark Williams, Chief Executive of Queenstown Trails Trust, highlighted the airport's role as a gateway for cycle tourism, allowing visitors to start their trail journey directly from the terminal. He noted that the partnership would celebrate the world-class trail network and foster a deeper connection with Central Otago.

Beyond trail development, the partnership will explore sustainability initiatives that support Queenstown's destination management goals, reflecting a shared commitment to stewardship and care for the region.
