Go above and beyond at Canberra’s Balloon Spectacular festival this March! 

Picture this: It’s sunrise and you’re watching hot air balloons transform the Canberra skyline as  you drift above Lake Burley Griffin in complete and utter luxury. This picture can be a reality at  the Canberra Balloon Spectacular, one of the most anticipated annual events in Australia, from  9th to 17th March 2024 in Canberra. People from all over the world gather for this festival to  embark on hot air rides. This spectacular is a 9-day extravaganza, where over 40 gigantic balloons inflate and take shape  to set afloat, all at the same time, in Canberra’s National Triangle, on the doorstep of Australian  Parliament House. While a third of the pilots flying the vessels are based out of Canberra, the remaining crew of  pilots come from across the globe. Amidst these balloons of all shapes and colours, the festival  features a special shape balloon this year named ‘Lucy’. Lucy was specially selected because of  her connection with International Women's Day on March 8, the day before the Canberra Balloon  Spectacular begins on March 9. Lucy has travelled around the globe to be in Canberra, originally  from Bristol in England, she then toured the Netherlands, and now lives in Montreal, Canada. As one soars high across Australia’s capital city, a panoramic view of Lake Burley Griffin and the  National Arboretum Canberra is an unmissable sight to catch. This festival attracts over 40,000  people with its balloon magic. Visitors are able to join in the spectacular, booking flights with Balloon Aloft Canberra. As a  memorable keepsake, all guests will be presented with a flight certificate, accompanied by a  celebratory glass of champagne. Ballooning occurs all year round in Canberra. Canberra to host ‘Flight’ – a spectacular drone sky show on 24th January

The National Capital Authority (NCA) is bringing a first-of-its-kind Drone Show to the shores of Lake Burley Griffin, Canberra. Assisted by the Australian Government through the National Australia Day Council, the event will bring Australians together to Reflect, Respect and Celebrate what it means to be an Australian in 2024. ‘FLIGHT: Drone SkyShow and Night Markets’, a free community event, will take place over three evenings, starting 25th to 27th January, and bring together a Drone SkyShow consisting of a total of 600 drones, night markets, food & drink stalls, musicians and roving live performers. In an Australian first, the Drone SkyShow will be presented as a trilogy of stories each night to captivate audiences of all ages.  Drone SkyShow: For the first time in Canberra, an enormous Drone SkyShow will illuminate Lake Burley Griffin. Crafted by the team at AGB Creative, the production will depict a vast array of Australian experiences and stories across a trilogy of shows. The captivating drone choreography will be set to a bespoke soundtrack, ensuring a truly multi-sensory experience. Each 12-minute show will be played at intervals over the three nights so that it can be viewed by the whole community at the event hub, located at Commonwealth Place. If attendees would prefer to avoid crowds, the Drone SkyShow will be visible from the central basin shoreline of Lake Burley Griffin and Mount Ainslie. Following an open tender process, the NCA has engaged AGB Creative to craft the Drone SkyShow. AGB has a substantial track record of presenting large scale Drone Shows, and has been behind Vivid Light Sydney, Expo 2020 Al Wasl Plaza Dubai, among many others. Night Markets: There will be midsummer night where crowds can expect multicultural cuisines and gourmet food stalls, one-of-a-kind clothing and locally made and designed art, jewellery, and homewares. There will also be vendors of delicious and decadent desserts and of course, ice cream. A variety of other restaurants and bars will also be in operation in the area.
