Air India gears up for merger day with multiple initiatives for Vistara customers
Air India, India’s leading global airline, is undertaking multiple steps to ensure a smooth on-ground experience for customers as Vistara merges with Air India on November 12, 2024. In the first month after the merger, nearly 115,000 customers who had purchased Vistara tickets pre-merger are expected to fly on unified Air India. Post the merger, the experience offered by Vistara will continue for customers. Vistara aircraft will be operated by Air India and will be identified by a special four-digit Air India code beginning with the digit “2”. For instance, UK 955 will become AI 2955, helping customer identify them while booking on www.airindia.com after November 12. The routes and schedule operated by Vistara will continue to be the same, alongside the Vistara in-flight experience that includes the product and services. It will also be serviced by the same crew. Over the last few months, 270,000 customers who had booked Vistara flights have been migrated to Air India and have been notified about the change. Further, over 4.5 million Vistara loyalty programme members are being migrated to Air India’s loyalty programme. The unified Air India opens up limitless possibilities for customers including unparalleled connection to over 90 domestic and international destinations and over 800 more destinations through codeshare and interline partners. Further, Air India’s narrowbody fleet continues to be upgraded with new aircraft being delivered, legacy aircraft being refitted with entirely new interiors and Vistara's catering now also extended to Air India. Air India’s widebody fleet has also been augmented with the entry of six A350 aircraft that have started to fly between Delhi and London and Delhi and New York. Air India has started its retrofit program with the first A320neo narrow body aircraft being sent for retrofit. 27 narrow body legacy aircraft will be totally refurbished and retrofitted and this retrofit is likely to be completed by the middle of 2025. The retrofitted A320neo aircraft will feature 8 luxurious seats in Business, 24 extra legroom seats in Premium Economy and 132 comfortable seats in Economy, offering wider choice to its guests. Subtle cabin lighting, spacious legroom and wider pitch, and modern features, like portable electronic device (PED) holders and USB ports with type A and C options to charge mobile phones, laptops and other gadgets, among others, will contribute significantly to offer guests an inflight experience catering to the needs of today’s discerning flyers. Carpets, curtains, upholstery, cabin panels will be refreshed with new tones and design motifs reinforcing the brand livery.
5 essential steps for transitioning a Vistara Booking to Air India for flights on/after 12 November
Vistara is all set to embark on a new chapter in its growth story by merging into Air India, and customers trying to book a Vistara flight on or after 12 November 2024 are being redirected to the Air India website. However, there must be several customers who have already booked a Vistara flight for travel post the migration date. They will need to take a few simple, but essential steps to ensure that their travel plans are managed effectively and stress-free. Verify Booking Details Following the merger, all Vistara flights scheduled post-November 12 will be operated by Air India. Thus, it’s crucial to check the booking status to understand any changes that may have occurred. Customers can verify their booking on the Air India website or through the mobile app by entering their PNR number and last name. This step will keep them informed about their flight status and any schedule or aircraft adjustments. On the day of travel, customers will need to check-in at the Air India counter at the respective airports. Lastly, for bookings made through a travel agent, customers can contact the Air India Call Centre or manage their bookings through the Air India website or mobile app. PNR and E-ticket Changes All PNRs will remain the same post the migration, however, the original Vistara ticket will be replaced with a new ticket issued by Air India which will have a different e-ticket number. Customers are advised to maintain records of both, the old as well as new ticket details, to resolve any discrepancies during travel. Stay Informed About Flight Operations Post-merger, flight timings should remain consistent. However, if changes occur, the Air India customer service team will notify customers by email and SMS. All efforts will be made by the dedicated teams across both airlines to ensure a seamless transition for all customers. Customers are advised to also check the flight status on the Air India website. Review Baggage Allowance, Purchases and Lounge access Customers who had already purchased excess baggage with their Vistara booking will be transferred to the new Air India flight (for travel November 12, 2024 onwards, subject to regulatory approvals). The lounge access and special/exclusive services purchased with Vistara booking may not be valid if the flight is operated by Air India (for travel November 12, 2024 onwards). Air India, Vistara gain DGCA approval for Maintenance Operations
Representative Image In a significant move towards the merger of India’s aviation industry, Air India and Vistara have secured CAR (Civil Aviation Requirement) 145 approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to integrate their aircraft line maintenance operations, as per an official release. to integrate their aircraft line maintenance operations. This development marks a crucial step in the ongoing merger process between the two airlines, aimed at streamlining operations and enhancing service efficiency. The DGCA's approval allows Air India and Vistara to merge their line maintenance activities, which include routine checks and minor repairs of aircraft at airports. This integration is expected to bring about operational synergies, leading to cost savings, improved resource utilisation, and technical expertise across the combined fleet. Air India has so far in-housed line maintenance at 12 stations in India and the move will further bolster the in-house line maintenance capabilities of Air India by making it more self-reliant and streamlined. Vistara announces network-wide freedom sale starting from 9 August 2024
Commemorating India’s 78th Independence Day, Vistara - India’s finest full-service carrier and a joint venture of the Tata group and Singapore Airlines, today, announced a network-wide ‘Freedom Sale’, applicable across all the three cabin classes - Economy, Premium Economy, and Business Class. Vistara inaugurates non-stop flights between Mumbai and Paris
Vistara, India’s finest full-service carrier and a joint venture of the Tata group and Singapore Airlines, inaugurated non-stop, 5x weekly flights between Mumbai and Paris. The inaugural flight, operated on Vistara’s 787-9 Dreamliner, commenced from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai, at 13:50 Hours (IST) on 28 March 2024 and arrived at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport at 18:55 Hours (CET). With the addition of this new route, Vistara now connects Paris to two Indian airports – Delhi and Mumbai. This is also Vistara’s sixth long-haul direct route between India and Europe.
