Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet passes the 1bln passengers milestone
Boeing shared that the 787 Dreamliner fleet has surpassed 1 billion passengers faster than any widebody commercial airplane in history, accomplishing the feat in less than 14 years since entering service. The global 787 fleet of more than 1,175 airplanes has flown nearly 5 million flights covering more than 30 million flight hours. “This milestone would not have been possible without the trust and confidence of our customers in operating the 787, and we are incredibly grateful for each of them,” said Scott Stocker, Boeing 787 program vice president and general manager. “The 787 Dreamliner family was designed to connect people and places like never before. Flying over 1 billion passengers in this relatively short time is a testament to how the airplane has delivered on its promises to transform air travel with operational versatility, efficiency and comfort. This achievement reflects the dedication, talent and innovation of the teammates and partners who have brought the 787 family to life. To every operator flying the 787 and every one of the 1 billion passengers who have flown on a Dreamliner, thank you.” Join the celebration Boeing is inviting everyone connected to the 787, including operators, passengers, suppliers and Boeing employees to share their memories on social media using #Dreamliner. By the numbers: 787 Dreamliner since entering service in 2011 1 billion+ passengers, 1,175+ jets, nearly 5 million flights, 30+ million flight hours Bestselling passenger widebody: 2,000+ orders from 89 customers The Dreamliner fleet operates across 85+ countries at 520+ airports, including 425+ new nonstop routes to destinations that were never served previously 2,100 flights each day: 480,000+ passengers daily and about 14.5 million people a month On average, each 787 is in the air more than 12 hours per day — showcasing strong global demand and reliability. Longest nonstop route: London to Perth (7,829 nmi), flown by Qantas Shortest nonstop route: Aruba to Curaçao (65 nmi), flown by TUI The 787 family is 25% more fuel efficient than the airplanes it replaces, thanks in large part to new engines, an expanded use of lightweight composite materials, more efficient systems applications and modern aerodynamics.
China’s Juneyao Airlines Co delays Boeing Jet delivery as Tariffs war continues
China’s Juneyao Airlines Co. is delaying delivery of a Boeing Co. widebody aircraft, highlighting how the escalating trade war between Washington and Beijing is driving up the price of big-ticket goods. As informed by a news report from Bloomberg. Juneyao was due to take delivery of the 787-9 Dreamliner, valued at about $120 million, from the US planemaker in about three weeks but will now hold off due to President Donald Trump’s tariffs on China, said the people, asking not to be identified discussing information that’s private. Beijing has instituted retaliatory tariffs on US-made goods. Juneyao didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. Boeing declined to comment. Boeing shares fell in New York after Bloomberg News reported on the delivery delay. The stock declined as much as 2.3%, reversing earlier gains. The Chinese airline joins a growing list of companies on both sides of the dispute suspending the exchange of goods due to the punishing levies. Tesla Inc. has stopped taking orders in China for Model S sedans and Model X sport utility vehicles — both of which are imported from the US. The budding trade war represents the latest setback for Boeing in a market forecast to make up 20% of global aircraft demand over the next two decades. In 2018, nearly a quarter of the US planemaker’s output ended up in China, but it hasn’t announced a major order there for years. For Shanghai-based Juneyao, the postponement risks delaying its international expansion. The airline had planned to increase flights to Europe, including Brussels and Athens, from the summer. Those additional routes were reliant on deliveries of long-range Boeing aircraft. Juneyao has a fleet of more than 100 planes, mainly Airbus SE single-aisle jets and nine Boeing 787s. Currently, the aviation firm operates a fleet of 113 aircraft system-wide, including 42 Boeing 737-800s under Malaysia Airlines and five under Firefly. According to MAG group managing director Izham Ismail: “The Boeing 737 has been a cornerstone of our fleet since 1969, with the introduction of the first 737-100 during the Malaysia-Singapore Airlines era. It has since played a vital role in supporting the growth of our national airline. The selection of the 737-8 and 737-10 reflects a careful evaluation of our long-term growth strategy, ensuring we have the right aircraft to meet evolving market demands. These next-generation aircraft offer greater fuel efficiency, extended range, and enhanced passenger comfort. By balancing operational needs with an elevated travel experience, we are strengthening our commitment to delivering a seamless and enjoyable journey for our passengers. Ismail added that the investment represents a bold step in securing MAG’s future, enhancing its ability to respond to market opportunities, drive greater value across our operations, and support the broader aviation ecosystem. Qatar Airways equips 30th Boeing 777 with Starlink
Qatar Airways has achieved a new milestone with the installation of Starlink on its 30th aircraft, equipping over 50 per cent of its Boeing 777 fleet. This achievement comes four months after the airline launched the world’s first Boeing 777 Starlink-enabled flight and two months after surpassing its initial 2024 target of 12 installations by upgrading 15 aircraft with Starlink connectivity. Soaring ahead of competitors, Qatar Airways has significantly accelerated its Starlink rollout, cutting installation time per aircraft from three or two days to just 9.5 hours, reducing the retrofit by nearly three-quarters of the initial timeline. The airline has ensured a seamless process with no impact on operations or flight schedules by carefully timing the installations to fit within a 12-hour overnight timeframe. The World’s Best Airline, as voted by Skytrax in 2024, had initially planned to complete the installations in two years; however, Qatar Airways has optimised its process and will complete the full Boeing 777 fleet rollout in the second quarter of 2025. This will allow more passengers to stay connected free of charge throughout their journey, streaming their favourite shows and live sports, enjoying online gaming, or working seamlessly at 35,000 feet. Speaking at Web Summit Qatar 2025, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, said: “We are delivering on our commitment to provide our passengers the best in-flight connectivity at an unprecedented pace. In just four months since launching the world’s first Boeing 777 Starlink-equipped flight, we have already installed this ground-breaking service on 30 aircraft—far exceeding our initial targets. This reflects the commendable efficiency and dedication of our team. Starlink Wi-Fi is a game-changer for our passengers who will soon enjoy uninterrupted connectivity on even more routes.” Qatar Airways is simplifying a complex process by replacing existing systems and installing new ones at record speed while maintaining the highest safety standards—achieving efficiency beyond the standard installation process. With one of the fastest and most ambitious Starlink rollouts in the industry, Qatar Airways is once again setting new standards for in-flight connectivity by keeping passengers connected wherever they fly.

These planes may join Somon Air’s fleet by 2026, augmenting the airline’s current fleet which consists of four Boeing 737-800 and two 737-900ER aircraft.
