Qatar Airways Cargo, IAG Cargo, and MASkargo Prepare for Launch of Global Cargo Joint Business

Qatar Airways Cargo, IAG Cargo, and MAB Kargo Sdn Bhd (MASkargo) discussed their intention to move forward with the launch of their Global Cargo Joint Business. Following the initial announcement in April 2025, the partnership is now targeting a formal launch in late 2025, subject to regulatory approvals. The global partnership will deliver new routing opportunities, increased operational agility, and unparalleled connectivity for customers across the global air freight market. The Global Cargo Joint Business’ value proposition lies in enhanced routing flexibility and capacity options connecting APAC, the Middle East, Africa, the Indian Subcontinent, Europe, and the Americas. The partnership will unlock new routings not previously available via a single booking, opening fresh trade opportunities across the world. At launch, the parties will focus on key cargo markets, with additional countries expected to be included in future phases, in line with regulatory approvals. The three carriers will be working to progressively align systems, processes, and commercial offerings to ensure a smooth rollout for customers. Streamlined products, services, enhanced digital solutions and a combined Avios loyalty proposition are expected to form part of the collective offering in due course. The carriers will look to optimise freighter and belly hold capacity across their combined networks, improving efficiency and flexibility for customers. Additionally, coordinated ground handling and trucking will deliver a smoother experience for customers booking their cargo through the new cargo joint business. At the same time, the three carriers will enter into individual agreements with the UN World Food Programme (WFP), the largest humanitarian organization fighting hunger, very soon. First announced at Air Cargo Europe, the three carriers will propose to provide in total 1000 tonnes of free tonnage to support WFP in the delivery of essential food supplies and commodities. This initiative reflects Global Cargo Joint Business’ unified commitment to humanitarian aid and the broader goal of ending world hunger. Mark Drusch, Chief Officer Cargo at Qatar Airways Cargo, said: "We are thrilled to discuss the upcoming launch of our groundbreaking partnership on the sidelines of Air Cargo Munich. Together, we will deliver unparalleled service and efficiency, ensuring that our customers receive the very best in air cargo solutions. Moreover, this collaboration allows us to contribute meaningfully to corporate social responsibility by supporting the World Food Programme. Together, we are utilising our strong networks to make a positive impact on communities around the world, showcasing the true power of partnership.” David Shepherd, Chief Executive Officer at IAG Cargo, added: “This proposed joint business represents a real step change for our customers. By creating this single network, we are creating new connections which unlock new commercial opportunities. This network will be more efficient, reliable, and coordinated than anything offered through traditional interline agreements. “Just as we are focused on delivering for our customers, we are equally committed to making a positive impact in the communities in which we operate, which is why we are delighted that this includes backing the vital work of the World Food Programme.” Mark Jason Thomas, Chief Executive Officer at MASkargo, commented: "This partnership is a major milestone for MASkargo and the global cargo industry. By teaming up with Qatar Airways Cargo and IAG Cargo, we’re extending our reach and unlocking seamless connectivity across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas. It’s more than network expansion; it’s about transforming how cargo moves worldwide. As the leading cargo carrier in our region, MASkargo has always been committed to connecting Asia with the world. This collaboration takes us further, delivering greater value, reach, and efficiency for our customers. We’re also proud to support the World Food Programme’s mission, reinforcing our belief that logistics can be a powerful force for good." “This collaboration reflects the growing role of the private sector in accelerating humanitarian response,” said Virginia Villar Arribas, WFP’s Deputy Director for Private Sector Partnerships. “We are excited to work with Qatar Airways Cargo, IAG Cargo, and MASkargo to shape an approach that can help WFP deliver faster, more efficiently, and at scale.” The partners remain focused on obtaining the necessary regulatory approvals and are progressing towards the scheduled launch in late 2025. More updates will be shared as the go-live date approaches.

Music license not required for marriage procession: HRAWI

Representative Image   The Hotel and Restaurant Association (Western India) – HRAWI has clarified the legal stance regarding obtaining music licence for a marriage and other social festivities associated with a marriage at hospitality establishments. The clarification comes in response to recent confusion caused by certain private agencies claiming that music licenses are now mandatory for such events. HRAWI has re-confirmed that there is no change in Indian law and a marriage procession and other festivities associated are exempt from music licensing requirements. There will be no infringement of playing music at such events. It stated that any private agency seeking payment for licenses for a marriage and related celebrations would be acting contrary to the provision of Section 52(1)(za) of the Copyright Act. “We have received reports of private agencies misleading hotels and guests regarding the need for music licenses at marriages and related/associated festivities. Some agencies are also publishing misleading reports suggesting the exemption for a marriage is no longer valid. These agencies are citing the Hon’ble Goa High Court Order dated 13.08.2024 and the DPIIT Public Notice dated 07.11.2024, misinterpreting it as a legal requirement to obtain music licenses. HRAWI has verified that Section 52(1)(za) of the Copyright Act, 1957, which exempts marriage-related festivities from licensing requirements, remains intact and enforceable,” says Pradeep Shetty, Spokesperson & Hon’ Secretary, HRAWI. Pradeep Shetty   The DPIIT, in a Public Notice dated 24.07.2023, had informed the public that marriages and related social festivities were exempted from requiring music licenses as per Section 52(1)(za) of the Copyright Act, 1957. In a subsequent notice dated 07.11.2024, the DPIIT placed the previous notice under abeyance. However, HRAWI has clarified that the Public Notice in any event was an explanatory note and did not establish new legal requirements. “Additionally, even the Hon’ble Goa High Court Order does not address the interpretation or implications of the law related to music licensing for a marriage and related social events. Consequently, any claims suggesting that the Order nullifies the exemption under Section 52(1)(za) are incorrect. The law remains clear, a marriage and associated social festivities are not subject to royalty payments or licensing requirements for music,” says Nirav Gandhi, Senior Vice President, HRAWI. The Association has emphasized that the Government of India has neither revoked nor amended its earlier public notice regarding music licensing for marriages. Furthermore, the DPIIT public notice dated 07.11.2024 does not suggest any new requirement for licensing in connection with marriage-related events. Section 52(1)(za) of the Copyright Act, 1957 remains valid, preserving the existing exemption for the public and guests regarding the use of music during marriage ceremonies and associated social festivities. Nirav Gandhi   With the wedding season underway, HRAWI has issued a circular to its members to ensure that the public is not misled by false claims from private agencies seeking fees unlawfully. The Association has urged vigilance to prevent harassment and to protect the public from unnecessary payments. “It is evident that the recent DPIIT notice is being misinterpreted to suggest that hospitality establishments or the public must obtain licenses for music at marriages and related events, which is simply untrue. We have advised members to reassure their guests about the legal exemption for music licensing in these festivities and to facilitate their events license-free. Any demand for licensing fees by private agencies for such events is not lawful and breaches Section 52(1)(za). We urge members to contact us if such demands arise so we can address the matter in Court,” concludes  Shetty.

Agoda: Thai marriage equality law could boost annual tourist arrivals by up to 4 million

Digital travel platform Agoda’s latest study reveals how Thailand’s landmark marriage equality legislation is set to deliver an additional four million international visitors per year within two years of its enactment. The said legislation also stands to increase tourism revenues by nearly US$ 2 billion per annum.  Agoda’s The Economic Impact of Marriage Equality on Thailand’s Tourism Industry study measures the projected economic opportunity presented by Thailand’s move to adopt marriage equality beginning 22 January 2025.  As the first jurisdiction in Southeast Asia to legalize same-sex marriage, and Asia’s third after Taiwan in 2019 and Nepal last year, the initiative positions Thailand to capture a larger slice of the global rainbow tourism market, valued at over US$ 200 billion annually. Agoda vice-president of corporate development and executive sponsor for Agoda Pride Timothy Hughes said: “The LGBTQIA+ community is a powerful economic force with a strong appetite for travel. While already a popular destination for LGBTQIA+ travellers, this move is expected to further solidify Thailand’s reputation as an inclusive holiday option. At Agoda, we are excited to see the substantive economic impact that the influx of travellers will have on local businesses and communities. We will continue working with our local partners to deliver exceptional travel experiences for this community.”    Relevant findings The report quantifies the projected trickle-down benefits of the legislative move to the wider Thai economy. It is estimated that, within two years, the influx of an additional 4 million international visitors annually could: boost tourism receipts by approximately USD2 billion each year—of which, around USD 0.7 billion would go to accommodations, USD 0.4 billion to food and beverage services, USD 0.4 billion to retail spending, USD 0.2 billion to domestic transportation, with USD 0.2 billion across other areas including entertainment and medical services; support an additional 152,000 FTE jobs, 76,000 directly within the tourism industry and a further 76,000 across the broader Thai economy, and; lift Thailand’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 0.3 percent. While Thailand is already established as a leading tourism destination, this legislative development is set to bolster its appeal to LGBTQIA+ tourists seeking welcoming destinations, especially as travellers worldwide demonstrate an increasing preference for diversity-driven and inclusive travel experiences. As only the third market within Asia to introduce marriage equality, Thailand is poised to become a regional hub for LGBTQIA+ couples from neighbouring countries who are seeking to celebrate their union in a country that recognises same-sex marriage.  With many cities in Thailand already established as prominent destination wedding venues, the marriage equality legislation could also boost Thailand’s wedding industry, along with positive contributions into related sectors like hotels, catering, and entertainment.

RAKxa Integrative Wellness introduces longevity lab diagnostic

Thailand’s RAKxa Integrative Wellness introduced its longevity lab diagnostic, offering guests a comprehensive examination to help them achieve specific health goals. The scientifically-grounded diagnostic utilises a comprehensive series of medical tests to uncover various factors influencing one's longevity with the long-term goal of helping guests live longer, healthier, more meaningful lives. What are the inclusions of the longevity lab diagnostic? This particular examination involves comparing a guest's calendar age to their cellular age, assessing inflammation levels, and detecting toxic heavy metals in their system to indicate the body’s overall detoxification system.  The longevity lab diagnostic’s micronutrient panel provides key insights on the root causes of several issues, including fatigue, weakened immunity, and chronic conditions. This enables guests to make informed decisions about nutrient absorption, as it reveals the levels of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants in their body, identifying any deficiencies or excesses. What happens next? Once all key factors affecting a guest’s health are determined, RAKxa collaborates with the guest to implement their integrative solutions by using their five pillars of wellness: exercise, nutrition, rest and sleep, stress management and restorative treatments.  The integrative solutions use a tactical approach such as dietary adjustments or tailored supplementation, to restore balance and support optimal body function.

Justifying the price tag of first class flights to Santiago

If you are thinking of catching flights, you should know that there are different ways to fly and it depends on how much you are willing to spend. If you want to fly for cheap, there are the economy seats and if you want to fly luxuriously, there are the first-class cabins. If you are after the middle path, there are business class seats with not as much space as first-class seats, but with all the comforts that you will get here. So, those looking for first class flights to Santiago should not just have the will to catch these but you should have the funds too. First come first serve, literally                                                                                                                        Santiago, the capital of Chile is the political and financial core of the country. Most tourists coming for holidays from overseas will come to this city first, as the largest international airport in the country is in this city. The Vuelos en primera clase will allow you preferential treatment at the airport too. You will have free access to the airline lounges at the airport, if any. Here you can enjoy free snacks and relax in comfortable settings, as you wait for your flights. You will be treated as a priority at the check-in counter and while boarding, usually there will be much shorter, separate queues for you. A rare commodity You should note that first-class seats are available on a limited number of flights, usually, these will be offered when you are flying internationally or over other long-haul routes. The reason for this is that these are on the larger aircraft, which are chosen by airlines when flying over long distances. These aircraft will have larger fuel tanks to make travel over such distances possible. If you prefer similar treatment for shorter routes, you can hire a private jet, though these can be even more expensive. If you are after the best First Class flight deals, you should look for them early. Those who fly in these cabins regularly will book their seats many months in advance to avoid any disappointments. Grabbing a bargain No matter how big your bank balance is, you will not let down the opportunity to get anything for less. There will be some of you looking for cheap First Class flights, which sounds like an anomaly in itself. The first-class seats are the most expensive ones and there are good reasons for this, one being that you will have a large part of the aircraft for yourself. Most airlines increase the airfare as the flight departure date approaches, so looking for these early will always help in terms of what you will be spending. If you are a frequent flyer with an airline, you can use the reward points that you will have earned over a period of time to get these air tickets for less. No worries with a one-time payment The cost of the air ticket of these cabins includes everything that you will be offered while flying. If you are able to procure vuelos baratos a Santiago in other cabins, you may be expected to pay for your baggage, the Wi-Fi connection, and the meals & beverages. With your first-class tickets, all of these will be complimentary. In fact, you will have a larger allowance for your baggage and your hand luggage. You won’t have a seatback screen but a large screen, comparable in size to the screens you have at your homes for entertainment. A steward or an air hostess will be assigned to you who will be assisting you with anything you may need. Experience always helps Air travel is the preferred mode of transport for most passengers irrespective of whether they are traveling domestically or internationally. You will be after Santiago flight deals when you have decided to fly to this city and the way you will approach getting them will depend on your experience with flights. Experienced travelers will be looking at their preferred Online Travel Agencies that list flights from multiple airlines instead of browsing through the sites of different airlines unless they have a preference for a particular airline. They will also know that if you are flexible with the dates, times, and airports to land at you will have wider options of flights to choose from. Conclusion The world is a harsh place when it comes to money and some things will always be expensive is the reality. First class is regarded as the finest way to fly, but it doesn’t come cheap. Still, it will be a good experience for those who don’t fly often and for those who fly often but are in need of a different experience.

Finnair and IAG Loyalty expand partnership

Finnair and IAG Loyalty have taken to the skies with an expanded partnership, offering customers the opportunity to link their loyalty programme account. The new relationship will, for the first time, allow members to link their Finnair Plus and British Airways Executive Club accounts, allowing the seamless transfer of Avios between both loyalty programme accounts. This move is the next step of Finnair officially adopting Avios as its loyalty currency, following a partnership with IAG Loyalty. From 22 May, customers will have the ability to transfer Avios between accounts by simply logging into their Finnair Plus account at finnair.com, and choosing to link their British Airways Executive Club account. British Airways customers will also be able to easily transfer their Avios to Finnair, by logging into their Executive Club account on ba.com, and linking this with Finnair Plus. As part of the move, members will be able to transfer Avios as often as they wish, up to any value. This means members holding Avios on their British Airways Executive Club account will now have the ability to transfer their Avios to a Finnair Plus account and use them, for example, to upgrade their travel class on a Finnair flight, or vice versa. The new initiative will also give customers increased opportunities to collect and use Avios, with access to both Finnair Plus awards and partners, but also to those of the British Airways Executive Club. This means customers can easily collect Avios when flying with either airline, redeem those hard-earned Avios on flights, or simply collect and use them when shopping, eating, or booking experiences with both Finnair and British Airways’ partners. Pekka Antila, Finnair Head of Loyalty, said: “As we continue on our journey into a new era with Finnair Plus, we are excited to be joining forces with our friends at British Airways. “From 22 May, customers will benefit from being able to link their Finnair Plus and British Airways Executive Club accounts, allowing the seamless transfer of Avios. “Customers will also enjoy a new and expanded range of opportunities to collect and use Avios, with access to both Finnair Plus and British Airways Executive Club’s partners. “This move has been a long-time coming, and we know it will prove popular with customers in the UK, Finland, and across the world, who choose to fly with both Finnair and British Airways.” Customers will also now have the option to link their British Airways Executive Club account and Qatar Airways Privilege Club or Iberia Plus account. Finnair’s loyalty programme, Finnair Plus, entered a new era on 9 March 2024, with Avios being adopted as its new loyalty currency. The programme, which is now spend-based, includes a range of new benefits including more collect-and-use opportunities with Avios partners and extra rewards, such as additional upgrade benefits, when reaching certain point limits within their existing tier. Avios, a leading global reward currency, is also used by Finnair’s oneworld partners’ loyalty programmes - British Airways Executive Club, Qatar Airways Privilege Club, and Iberia Plus.
