Bahrain is set to welcome a new wave of luxury hospitality, dining and family entertainment as Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) and Bahrain-based Kingdom Projects announce a $100 million investment spanning three major developments in the Kingdom. The partnership will mark the much-anticipated debut of the iconic Taj hotel brand in Bahrain, alongside the arrival of Bombay Brasserie, Taj's signature Indian dining concept, and a flagship Hamleys toy store.
Unveiled during the fourth edition of Gateway Gulf, held on 1–2 November 2026, the investment represents a significant expansion of international hospitality and lifestyle brands in Bahrain, reinforcing the country's ambitions to strengthen its appeal as a regional tourism and investment destination.
At the heart of the investment is Taj Hotel Downtown Seef, a 200-key luxury property that will introduce IHCL's flagship hospitality brand to the Bahraini market for the first time. Developed by Kingdom Projects in partnership with IHCL, the hotel will also feature 80 branded residences, bringing together Taj's signature hospitality with premium residential living. Construction is expected to commence shortly, marking an important milestone in IHCL's regional expansion. Kingdom Projects will serve as Taj's exclusive partner in Bahrain, with both companies exploring a wider pipeline of developments beyond the initial three projects.
Adding a culinary dimension to the investment, Bombay Brasserie is preparing to open in Bahrain Bay during the first quarter of 2027. Known for its contemporary interpretation of Indian cuisine, the restaurant concept will bring Taj's culinary heritage to Bahrain's evolving dining landscape. Interior fit-out works are already underway, with the restaurant expected to strengthen Bahrain Bay's appeal as a destination for upscale dining and lifestyle experiences.
The third development will introduce a flagship Hamleys showroom at The Avenues Bahrain, expanding the international toy retailer's footprint in the Kingdom. Owned by Reliance Retail, Hamleys will offer its extensive collection of toys and entertainment products alongside an interactive retail experience designed for families and visitors. With interior works progressing, the flagship store is also scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2027.
The addition reflects Bahrain's growing emphasis on family-oriented attractions and experiential retail as part of its wider tourism offering. The announcement was made in the presence of Noor bint Ali Alkhulaif, Minister of Sustainable Development and Chief Executive of Bahrain Economic Development Board (Bahrain EDB), and Fatima bint Jaafar Al Sairafi, Minister of Tourism.
Hosted by Bahrain EDB at Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay, Gateway Gulf 2026 brought together investors and business leaders under the theme Reimagining Global Partnerships, Powering Sustainable Growth. Commenting on the investment, Noor bint Ali Alkhulaif said: "Kingdom Projects' investments reflect the continued confidence investors place in Bahrain as a trusted destination for high-quality, long-term investment." She added that introducing international brands across hospitality, dining and retail would further diversify Bahrain's offering while supporting the growth of key economic sectors.
Bahrain EDB has worked closely with Kingdom Projects to facilitate investment opportunities and stakeholder engagement across its development portfolio. Beyond expanding the Kingdom's hospitality and lifestyle landscape, the three developments are expected to create employment opportunities across hotels, food and beverage, and retail. For Bahrain, the investment signals another step towards diversifying its tourism offering, bringing together luxury accommodation, international dining and family entertainment to attract both regional and international visitors.
